In Assam, scrutiny of nomination papers for the first phase is on. Five seats will be covered in this phase. 38 candidates have filed nomination papers for the first phase of polls.  For the BJP former Chief Minister of Assam and present Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal, MP Pradan Baruah, former state minister and MLA Ranjit Dutta are in the fray. Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, and former MLA Roselina Tirkey have also submitted nominations. The President of Asom Jatiya Parishad Lurinjyoti Gogoi is up against Mr. Sonowal at Dibrugarh. Meanwhile, filing of nomination papers has also begun for the second phase in the state. Five seats will be covered in this phase that includes Silchar and Nagaon.
