In Assam, the main accused in the rape of a minor girl at Dhing died early this morning. The incident occurred during a re-creation of the crime scene in the wee hours today. The accused, Tafazul Islam, who had been arrested by police managed to flee and jumped into the pond that led to his death. Police later recovered his body with the help of the SDRF team. Akashvani’s correspondent reports that three persons were allegedly involved in the heinous crime at Dhing in Nagaon district that resulted in massive protests across the state. Police are trying to nab the remaining culprits.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma asserted that persons, involved in the crime, will not be spared. State DGP G P Singh and Minister Pijush Hazarika visited Dhing and ensured justice for the victim’s family.
