Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that his government will carry out a massive drive of planting one crore commercially viable saplings on a single day under the Amrit Brikshya Andolan initiative on the 17th of September, for which over 47 lakh people have registered their names. Addressing the media persons in Guwahati today, Mr. Sarma said that during the period of the 9th to the 17th of September, attempts will be made to set three new Guinness World Records and to break six different existing categories of Guinness World Records.
Various self-help groups, frontline workers, educational institutes, and government personnel will come together to plant one crore commercially viable saplings. The State government has arranged 30 lakh saplings from the State Forest Department and purchased 80 lakh saplings from other States.
