In Assam, the campaigning for the by-polls to the five assembly seats will conclude this evening. A total of 34 candidates are in the fray. Several senior leaders are making last-ditch efforts to woo the voters today through public rallies and meetings. Our correspondent reports that 8 candidates are in the fray at Dholai, 11 at Samaguri, and 3 candidates are contesting for the Sidli seat. On the other hand, four candidates are in the contest at Behali, while 8 candidates will try their political luck at the Bongaigaon seat. There are also reports of pre-poll violence at the Samaguri constituency. The Congress and the NDA are contesting in all five seats. For the NDA, the BJP has fielded candidates in three assembly seats, and the Asom Gana Parishad and UPPL have put up candidates in one seat each.
