After overnight losses on Wall Street amid tariff concerns and fears of potential recession in the world’s largest economy, investors were rattled and this fall was mirrored in some of the major Asian markets. However, China and Hong Kong markets managed to hold strong and overall the Asian markets had a mixed performance.
Among the falling markets, the Straits Times Index of Singapore plunged 1.9 percent, South Korea”s Kospi saw a steep fall of nearly 1.3 percent and Japan’s Nikkei index lost 0.64 percent. However, China’s Shanghai Composite index rose 0.4 percent and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng managed an increase of 0.24 percent.
Meanwhile, major European indices were trading mixed. Germany’s DAX was up 0.18 percent, France’s CAC 40 was flat, and London’s FTSE 100 was trading over 0.2 percent down when reports last came in.
