Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal today said that the government has taken major steps in the 100 days of the Modi 3.0 government to improve the urban infrastructure and housing landscape. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, the Minister informed that the government has approved Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) 2.0 in its first 100 days. He said this initiative aims to provide financial assistance to one crore urban poor and middle-class families in urban areas with an investment of two lakh 30 thousand crore rupees.
Minister Manohar Lal also informed that metro services have been extended to 21 cities across the country over the last ten years. He added that 700 kilometres of new Metro lines have been made operational, bringing the total operational length to 945 kilometres in these years. He also highlighted that the investment in schemes related to urban infrastructure projects witnessed a multifold increase with the investment of over eight lakh crore rupees in the last ten years. He said this is 21 times more in comparison to investment made from 2004 to 2014 which was around 38 thousand crore rupees. During the event, the Minister also launched the Training Module on Swachhata Hi Seva 2024.
