Andhra Pradesh Assembly session begins; Governor addresses joint session

Andhra Pradesh Assembly sessions have begun today with Governor S. Abdul Nazeer addressing the joint session of the Assembly. In his speech, the Governor highlighted the challenges faced by Andhra Pradesh due to the partition, including the loss of the capital Hyderabad. He expressed concern over losses suffered across various sectors in the previous government. Mr. Nazeer stated that it has become difficult for the new government to meet even the essential committed expenditure with the reduced revenue of the state. The capital expenditure was reduced by 60 per cent in 2019-24 compared to 2014-19, he added. The Governor said that departments such as Water Resources and Transport, Roads and Buildings that undertake substantial capital works were left critically short of funds to carry out any works. He noted that between 2014 and 2019, there was a significant influx of investments in AP, leading to growth and development.

Mr. Nazeer commended Chief Minister Chandrababu for his hard work in developing the state and constructing a new capital. He said that the government has already started fulfilling the pre-poll promises and announced a steadfast commitment to ‘Super Six’ promises. Governor wished the newly elected public representatives and urged the members of the Assembly to fulfil the aspirations of the people and work towards continued progress and development in Andhra Pradesh. He appealed to people to understand the current alarming financial situation and cooperate with the government in rebuilding the state. On the other hand, YSRCP MLAs came wearing black scarves, shouted slogans against the government and walked out when the Governor continued his speech without interruption.
