Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level meeting in New Delhi to review the security situation in Manipur on Monday. During the meeting, Mr Shah asked for strategic deployment of central forces to restore peace and harmony in Manipur. He said that the deployment of forces will be increased if necessary. The Minister directed to take strict action as per law against those committing violence.
Home Minister Shah said, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Central government is fully committed to ensure the security of the people of Manipur. He directed Manipur Chief Secretary to ensure proper health and education facilities for displaced people and their rehabilitation. He said, that the Home Ministry will soon talk to both the groups, Meitei and Kuki, so that the gap between the two communities can be bridged. Mr Shah said, Central government is actively supporting the Government of Manipur in strengthening the security situation in the state.
Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, Intelligence Bureau Chief Tapan Deka, Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pandey, Chief of Army Staff (Designate) General Upendra Dwivedi, Manipur DGP Rajiv Singh and other Senior officers attended the meeting.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday had also chaired a high-level meeting to review security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and preparedness for Amarnath Yatra.
