All arrangements ready to conduct by-election in Puthuppally Assembly constituency in Kottayam, Kerala

All necessary arrangements are underway for the smooth conduct of the by-election in Puthuppally Assembly constituency in Kottayam, Kerala tomorrow.

Voting will be held from 7 am to 6 pm tomorrow. The fierce public campaigning came to end last day and today is the day of silent campaign. A total of 7 candidates are there in the fray. The main contest is between Chandy Oommen, the UDF candidate, Jake C Thomas, the LDF candidate and the  NDA candidate, Lijin Lal. The bypoll assumes political significance as it will decide the successor of the former Chief Minister and Congress stalwart Oommen Chandy who had represented the constituency for a record 53 years at a stretch. 

A total of 182 polling are there with webcasting facility. Polling materials will be distributed today. A total of 228 ballot units, control units, and VVPAT machines, have been arranged for the Assembly constituency, besides an additional batch of 19 VVPAT machines as reserve. As many as 10 polling stations will be manned entirely by women. Women will be in charge of polling and security in these booths. Counting of votes will start from 8 a.m. on Friday, 8th September, at the counting centre set up at Baselios College auditorium in Kottayam.
