The All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi, today announced the initiation of the GRASSROOT (Gravity Stent Retriever System for Reperfusion of Large Vessel Occlusion Trial) clinical trial in New Delhi. The trial will evaluate the safety and efficacy of an advanced stent retriever. AIIMS Delhi, in a statement, said that the stent retriever is a next-generation device designed to address the unique features of stroke clots in the Indian population.
AIIMS Delhi has undertaken this initiative keeping in mind the significant unmet need for interventional stroke treatment. Professor and Head of the Department of Neurosciences, Dr Sailesh Gaikwad, said that the initiative will provide innovative solutions that will not only enhance stroke outcomes but also set new standards for stroke care globally. Dr Gaikwad also mentioned that the treatment will be cost-flexible to improve access to life-saving interventions for patients in India and around the world.
