Union Minister for Earth Sciences Kiren Rijiju has said that accurate weather forecasting is necessary in the backdrop of day to day changes in the weather patterns.
He was speaking after visiting the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) in Pune today. Informing that IITM currently has a four petaflop capacity supercomputer Mr. Rijiju said that soon a ten petaflop capacity supercomputer will be provided to IITM to help in the accurate forecast of weather.
Owing to the climate change and its different effects Mr. Rijiju suggested common citizens also should visit IMD website regularly to understand the weather forecast.
Earlier the Minister interacted with the scientists of IITM and got to know the work in the institute's laboratories. He described IITM as a premier institute of Tropical Meteorology of international repute.
