The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today declared that it will not contest the upcoming Delhi Mayor election. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly, Atishi, said that the party will not field a candidate as it lacks the numbers in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). She accused the BJP of gaining a majority in the MCD house by poaching many of its councillors. She said the BJP will now have a triple-engine government in the National Capital with no excuses.
Meanwhile, the BJP has announced that party councillor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh as the Mayor candidate and Jai Bhagwan Yadav as the Deputy Mayor candidate for the MCD Mayor Election. The deadline for filing nominations is today, with the election scheduled on the 25th of this month.
