Aakashvani Sanskrit News golden jubilee year begins today. The first broadcast of Sanskrit news started from Akashvani Kendra on 30th of June 1974. The five-minute daily Sanskrit news bulletin started its journey at 9 am and later shifted to 6.55 am. The second bulletin of 10 minutes started at 6.10 pm and later shifted to 6.20 pm. In its own characteristic style, team Akashvani has been reaching out to the citizens of India in Sanskrit over the past 49 years.
 
On this occasion, eminent Sanskrit Scholar and Sanskrit newsreader, Dr Baldevanand Sagar congratulated the people. He urged students, researchers and scholars to celebrate the golden jubilee year of Akashvani Sanskrit news with full enthusiasm. Dr. Sagar expressed hope that technological advancement will promote Sanskrit journalism as many Sanskrit scholars started youtube channels, Akashvani and Doordarshan are now running different programmes in Sanskrit.
 
The history of Sanskrit journalism dates back to 157 years. The first Sanskrit magazine, Kashi Vidya Sudhanidhi was published from Kashi on 1st June 1866. Since then, a number of universities have launched Sanskrit journalism courses and many students are pursuing diploma and certificate courses in Sanskrit Journalism.
