After a lull of months, a fresh case of COVID-19 has been detected in Manipur on May 10, 2024. The patient has been identified as a 66 years old woman from Imphal East district. She is undergoing treatment at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Imphal at present.
Speaking to AIR RNU Imphal, director of JNIMS, professor L. Deben Singh said that the patient had been admitted to the hospital on May 7 with a complaint of chest pain and trepidation.
Consequently, she was admitted to the chest ward of the hospital. During the course of treatment the doctors sent samples of nasopharyngeal swabs for SARS COVID 2 test. The test came positive on May 10, Deben said.
The director asserted that there was no cause of panic and the hospital is fully prepared. Treatment of the patient is going on at the dedicated COVID ward of the hospital.
Appealing to the public to follow COVID SOP, he urged the public to avoid unnecessary public gatherings and wear masks. He also appealed to the public to not believe in unconfirmed information on social media.’
