The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) today announced its second bi-monthly policy of this fiscal and as expected the apex bank preferred to maintain the status quo by keeping the key rates unchanged. Announcing the policy review, RBI Governor Shaktikant Das said, Monetary Policy Committee decided to keep the policy repo rate unchanged at 6.5 percent.
The Monetary Policy Committee also decided by a majority of five out of six members to remain focused on the withdrawal of accommodation to ensure that inflation progressively aligns with the target while supporting growth. The RBI Governor said, taking into account all factors and assuming a normal monsoon, inflation based on Consumer Price Index is projected at 5.1 percent for 2023-24.
The Committee has kept the GDP growth rate at 6.5 percent for the fiscal year 2023-2024. The RBI Governor also announced that banks can now issue RuPay pre-paid forex cards for Indians traveling abroad With this, the RBI also announced to expand the scope of an e-rupee voucher. To let this happen, non-bank companies could issue such instruments independently. Mr Das also spoke about the withdrawal of 2000 rupee notes. He said, since the third week of May, the decline in the currency in circulation and the pick up in government spending have expanded the system liquidity.
The Government has set up 733 One Stop Centres for women security across the country so far. It has also sanctioned a budget for 300 more such centers. These One Stop Centres are providing a range of integrated services under one roof including police facilitation, medical aid, legal aid, counselling and temporary shelter to women affected by violence or those females who are in distress. This was stated by senior BJP leader and Union Minister Smriti Irani while addressing media at BJP headquarters in New Delhi today on the completion of nine years of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre. Highlighting several initiatives taken by the Centre for the welfare of women in the country in the last nine years, she said, Anganwadi Services have been strengthened in the country and all Anganwadi centres have been connected through mobile smart phone.
External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar has said, the world today looks at India as a development partner and the country is playing the role of narrative shaper. Dr Jaishankar said, the world today listens to India and believes in its independent voice. Briefing media in New Delhi today on the completion of nine years of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre, the External Affairs Minister said, India’s foreign policy reflects the country’s greater influence, bigger footprint, new concept, and strong delivery in recent years.

Dr. S Jaishankar said, the activities of Indian diplomacy have made the nation more secure and economically strong. He said India is countering Chinese actions on the northern borders and de-legitimized cross-border terror from Pakistan which has enhanced security. He said, India has taken a clear stance on the Belt and road initiative and the situation on northern borders. He said India took an independent stance during the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

"The Scheme was approved by the Union Cabinet in November 2017 as a centrally sponsored scheme to empower rural women through community participation. Pradhan Mantri Mahila Shakti Kendra PMMSK is envisaged to work, National level and State level structures provide technical support to the government on issues related to women, the District and Block level Centres provide support to PMMSK.It is implemented through State Governments and UT Administrations with a cost sharing ratio of 60:40 between Centre and States except for North East and Special Category States where the funding ratio is 90:10. For Union Territories 100 per cent central funding is provided.

India has conducted the successful flight-test of New Generation Ballistic Missile Agni Prime off the Odisha coast. The missile was flight-tested by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha last evening. The Defence Ministry said, all objectives were successfully demonstrated during the flight test and this was the first pre-induction night launch conducted by the users after three successful developmental trials of the missile, paving the way for the induction of the system into the Armed Forces. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has congratulated DRDO and the Armed Forces for the success as well as the copy-book performance of the Agni Prime.
The temple of Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy, commonly known as Tirupati Balaji Temple was inaugurated and thrown open for the devotees in Majeen area of Jammu today. "Srinagar City is undergoing a significant infrastructural upgrade-courtesy the Smart City Mission. A state-of-the-art Integrated Command and Control Centre has been set up under the mission for providing enhanced traffic management system, location-based targeted surveillance and other facilities. An 80 kilometre walking space besides a network of cycling tracks is also being created. The city will also get a robust sewerage system and a fleet of around 100 e-buses will be added to enhance the public transport mechanism within the city. In the City Centre, Lal Chowk, the famous Polo View market has been made fully pedestrianized and massive upgradation work is underway on and around the Clock Tower, famously known as the Ghanta Ghar. India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said Southwest Monsoon has set in over Kerala today against the normal date of 1st June. In a statement, the IMD said the conditions are favourable for further advance of Southwest monsoon into some more parts of central Arabian Sea, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and southwest, Central and northeast Bay of Bengal in the next 48 hours.
