The government today approved an increase in Minimum Support Price, MSP, for all mandated Kharif Crops for Marketing Season 2023-24. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs took the decision to ensure remunerative prices to growers for their produce and to encourage crop diversification. Briefing media in New Delhi this afternoon, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said this year's increased MSP is the biggest in last several years.
The increase is in line with the Union Budget 2018-19 announcement of fixing the MSP at a level of at least 1.5 times of the All-India weighted average Cost of Production.
The Cabinet also gave its nod to a third revival package for BSNL, with a total outlay of 89 thousand 47 crore rupees. It includes an allotment of 4G and 5G spectrum for BSNL through equity infusion. The authorised capital of BSNL will be increased from one lakh 50 thousand crore rupees to two lakh ten thousand crore rupees. With the revival package, BSNL will emerge as a stable telecom service provider focused on providing connectivity to the remotest parts of India.
The Cabinet also approved expansion of Metro Connectivity from HUDA City Centre to Cyber City in Gurugram with spur to Dwarka Expressway. Union Minister Piyush Goyal said, in this phase, metro will cover a distance of over 28 kilometres having 27 stations on route.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that one of the top priorities of the government is to make the most expensive medicines available at the cheapest cost across the country. In reply to a tweet by Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on allowing two thousand Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) to open Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Kendras across the country, Mr Modi expressed confidence that the initiative will make life easier for people in rural areas.
The decision was taken in a meeting of Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah with Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister Mansukh Mandaviya in New Delhi yesterday. Out of two thousand PACS, one thousand will be opened by August this year and the rest, by December.
In Manipur, security forces started combing operation and recovered a large number of locally made arms and ammunition looted from police stations. The forces also destroyed bunkers used by Kuki militants. The combined security forces comprising BSF, Manipur Police and Assam Rifles, under the supervision of a DIG-rank team, conducted the operation in Thingkangphai villages under Churachandpur district.
In Uttar Pradesh, dreaded gangster Sanjiv Maheshwari Jiva was shot dead today inside the Lucknow court premises. A policeman and a minor girl are also injured. Jiva, a close aide of jailed gangster Mukhtar Ansari, was brought to the Lucknow court for a hearing in a criminal case. Eyewitnesses said the alleged shooter arrived in the court dressed as a lawyer and opened fire at Jiva. The shooter has been arrested by the Police.
Union Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya released the fifth State Food Safety Index in New Delhi today. Dr. Mandaviya awarded the winning states in different categories. Kerala, Punjab, and Tamil Nadu were awarded in the Large State category, and Goa, Manipur, and Sikkim in the Small States category. Jammu and Kashmir, Chandigarh, and Delhi got the awards in the Union Territories category.
Dr Mandaviya said, wellness can be achieved through healthy food. He said, 100 healthy food streets will be developed across the country sponsored by the government.

It aims to create a competitive and positive change in the food safety ecosystem. The index helps in providing safe and nutritious food to the citizens. President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Belgrade today on a three-day state visit to Serbia. She was received at the airport by her counterpart Aleksandar Vučić. Later, she paid floral tributes at the bust of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandijeva Street. The President addressed the Indian community and Friends of India this evening. She said India is on the way to become the third largest economy of the world before the end of this decade. She said new infrastructure is coming up all over the country at a breathtaking pace, and India is planning to be a developed state by 2047.
Talking about women's empowerment, President Murmu said early indications suggest that India's gender ratio is now shifting towards the favourable.

Company is the nodal agency for carrying out PSLV and SSLV production through Indian industry under consortium route. It is also working to transfer technologies developed by ISRO, so that benefits of the space programme are transferred to Indian industries. The very severe cyclonic storm “Biparjoy” over east-central and adjoining southeast Arabian Sea moved northwards with a speed of seven kilometres per hour. It lay centered over east-central Arabian Sea in the afternoon, about 850 kilometres west-southwest of Goa, 950 kilometres southwest of Mumbai, and 1,010 kilometres south-southwest of Porbandar. India Meteorological Department said it would move nearly northwards during the next 24 hours and then north-northwestwards during the subsequent three days.
Under its influence, gale wind speed reaching 130 to 140 kilometres per hour gusting to 155 kmph is likely to prevail over east-central Arabian Sea tomorrow. Squally weather, with wind speed reaching 35 to 45 kilometres per hour gusting to 55 kmph, is likely along and off Karnataka-Goa-Maharashtra coasts. Fishing operations over east central and adjoining west central and south Arabian Sea have been suspended till 12th June.
Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Anurag Thakur today assured the wrestlers that the probe on charges against outgoing Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh will be completed by the 15th of June and chargesheets will be filed. Briefing media in Delhi after a six-hour long discussion with wrestlers, Mr Thakur said all FIRs against wrestlers will be taken back, and they have agreed that they will not hold any protest till 15th June. The Sports Minister informed that the WFI elections will be held by 30th June. He said WFI will have an Internal Complaints Committee to be headed by a woman.

In French Open Tennis, Beatriz Haddad Maia of Brazil entered the women's singles' semifinals. She defeated Ons Jabeur of Tunisia 3-6, 7-6, 6-1. In another quarterfinal match, Iga Swiatek of Poland defeated American Coco Gauff 6-4, 6-2 to advance into the semis. Swiatek will now face Maia in the semifinal tomorrow evening.
