In Odisha, 233 people have lost their lives and more than 900 are critically injured in the Coromandel Express train accident last evening. Informing this, Odisha Chief Secretary Pradeep Jena said the death toll could increase as rescue operations are underway. Rescue teams from Odisha and West Bengal have been mobilised, including Defence forces, NDRF.The injured passengers are being treated at Balasore Medical College and Hospital and other hospitals in nearby areas.
The first train incident occurred at about 7 in the evening yesterday when the Shalimar-Howrah Coromandel Express derailed at Bahanaga station after colliding with a goods train. At the same time, the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast train derailed after a few minutes at the same spot. Sources said as many as 15 to 17 coaches were damaged in the derailment.
Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has ordered a high-level probe into the Coromandel Express Derailment. Mr. Vaishnaw said the accident was unfortunate and the rescue operation began as soon as the Ministry came to know of it. The Railways cancelled and diverted certain trains following the incident. Mr Vaishnav inspected the ground situation with high-level officials at the accident site. Talking to media, he said that the our entire focus is now on rescue operation:

"The accident scene showed rescuers climbing up the mangled train wreck to find survivors. Rescuers pulled several out of the upturned train coaches. People lined up outside the hospitals to donate blood. Additional fire service teams, doctors and ambulances are also being rushed from nearby districts. Meanwhile, the Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik ordered State mourning for a day today. He will reach the accident site this morning. This is S N Pattnaik for Akashvani."

President Droupadi Murmu has expressed grief over the loss of lives in the unfortunate rail accident. She prayed for the success of rescue operations and the quick recovery of the injured. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he is distressed over the train accident in Odisha. Mr Modi said, in this hour of grief, his thoughts are with the bereaved families.
Home Minister Amit Shah has said that the train accident is deeply agonising. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia of two lakh rupees from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund for the next of kin of each deceased in the train mishap. He said the injured will be given 50 thousand rupees.
Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has also announced an ex-gratia for the accident victims. He said ten lakh rupees would be given in case of deaths, two lakh rupees towards grievous injuries and 50 thousand rupees for minor injuries.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high level meeting in New Delhi to review overall preparedness for flood management in the context of upcoming monsoon season. He also reviewed the long-term measures for formulation of a comprehensive and overarching policy to mitigate the perennial flood problems of the country. Mr Shah said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, efforts are being made in the field of disaster management to help minimize the loss of lives and livelihoods during disasters. He said that five days rain and flood forecast currently being given by India Meteorological Department and Central Water Commission which will be expanded to seven days forecast by next monsoon season so that flood management can be further improved.
The Home Minister directed for a development comprehensive software by March next year, in which scientific data will be made available to all the early warning agencies immediately for dissemination to the disaster management agencies. He instructed that during the current flood season, the present and forecasted river levels must be monitored on an hourly basis.

Stand Up India Scheme was launched in 2016 to promote entrepreneurship at grassroot level focusing on economic empowerment and job creation. The objective of the Scheme is to facilitate loans between 10 lakh and one crore rupees to at least one Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe borrower and one woman borrower per bank branch of Scheduled Commercial Banks. Launching the scheme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that each bank branch of the country will provide loans in its coverage area to Dalit, tribal as well as woman.
Under the Stand up India Scheme, more than 42 thousand crore rupees of loans has been sanctioned to over one lakh 87 thousand beneficiaries. Out of which, more than 80 per cent of loans have been provided to women. The scheme envisages to facilitate the dreams of aspiring SC, ST and women entrepreneurs to reality by supporting their energy and enthusiasm and removing many hurdles from their path. To prevent hoarding and unscrupulous speculation and also to improve affordability to the consumers in respect of tur dal and urad dal, the Government of India has issued an order where it has imposed stock limits on the pulses applicable to wholesalers, retailers, big chain retailers, millers and importers. The Removal of Licensing Requirements, Stock Limits and Movement Restrictions on Specified Foodstuffs (Amendment) Order, 2023 has been issued with immediate effect from yesterday.
Under this order, stock limits have been prescribed for tur and urad until 31st October 2023 for all States and Union Territories. Stock limits applicable to each of the pulse individually will be 200 MT for wholesalers; 5 MT for retailers; 5 MT at each retail outlet and 200 MT at the depot for big chain retailers; last three months of production or 25 per cent of annual installed capacity, whichever is higher, for the millers. In respect of importers, the importers are not to hold imported stock beyond 30 days from the date of Customs clearance.
India has expressed hope that Chinese authorities will facilitate the continued presence of Indian journalists working and reporting from China.
