Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya addressed the BRICS Health Ministers Meeting 2023 on the sidelines of the World Health Assembly in Geneva. The meeting brought together health ministers from BRICS member countries- Brazil, China, Russia, and South Africa.
Dr. Mandaviya extended his heartfelt congratulations to South Africa for prioritizing the agenda of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) through the theme of "Bridging the Gap on Sustainable Health on the Road to UHC 2023."
Emphasising the significance of collaborative research in mitigating and responding effectively to global health crises, Dr. Mandaviya said, The pandemic has highlighted the need for increased collaboration and synergy in the development of vaccines, therapeutics, and diagnostics. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has said that a technologically advanced military is crucial to protect the interests of the nation. Inaugurating a two-day DRDO- Academia conclave in New Delhi yesterday, Mr. Singh stressed that for a country like India, it becomes vital to have technologically advanced military as it faces a double threat on borders.
The Minister also emphasised that technologies developed through collaboration and collective efforts could have applications in both civil and defence sectors. He asserted that Defence Research and Development Organisation and academia work in partnership with each other to find solutions to the challenges. He said, this partnership will prove helpful in making India a leading nation in defence technologies. The Indian Navy has achieved another milestone with a MiG29K fighter undertaking a maiden night landing on the deck of INS Vikrant, India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the Indian Navy. Indian Navy has said the successful maiden night landing of the MiG-29K on INS Vikrant is indicative of the Navy’s impetus towards Atmanirbhar Bharat. Commissioned into the Indian Navy on September 2, 2022 in the presence of the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, the Carrier is a big boost to the 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ vision of the Government of India.
External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar has asserted to take the discussions on bilateral cooperation in the India-Russia Intergovernmental Commission for Trade, Economic, Scientific & Cultural Cooperation framework to a higher level. Our Jammu Correspondent reports that the installation of towers would block incoming and outgoing calls, SMS and data services in the prison premises. The Home department of J&K has approved the project of installation of this system in all 14 jails of J&K for blocking 2G, 3G and 4G signals that could later be used for 5G as well.
India’s Permanent Representative at UN Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj yesterday received the Dag Hammarskjold Medal in honour of three Indian peacekeepers who lost their lives in the line of duty last year. Three Indian peacekeepers, who lost their lives serving under the UN flag last year, are among 103 military, police, and civilian peacekeepers who will be honoured posthumously with a prestigious medal for their service and supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. Border Security Force personnel Head Constables Shishupal Singh and Sanwala Ram Vishnoi, both served with the Organisation Stabilisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) Shaber Taher Ali, served in a civilian capacity with the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq.
Saudi Arabia and Canada have reached an agreement to restore full diplomatic ties and appoint new ambassadors, bringing an end to a dispute that from 2018. The decision was made following discussions between Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Bangkok in November last year. According to a Canadian government source, punitive trade measures will be lifted as part of this resolution. As part of the restoration of ties, Canada will appoint Jean-Philippe Linteau as its new ambassador to Riyadh.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that rainfall will continue at many places across the country today. According to the IMD, many places in the plains of Northwest India will experience rainfall with thunderstorms.
