India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated King Charles the III and Queen Camilla on their coronation. In a tweet, Mr. Modi said, they are sure that the India-UK relationship will be strengthened further in the coming years. Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar and his wife Dr Sudesh Dhankhar attended the Coronation ceremony in London. King Charles III was crowned during a majestic and deeply religious ceremony at Westminster Abbey in London on Saturday. After the service, the King and selected members of the royal family made the customary appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony. US President Joe Biden also congratulated the King and Queen. He noted the enduring friendship between the United Kingdom and United States. French President Emmanuel Macron said King Charles III and Queen Camilla are friends of France. President of the European Council Charles Michel extended his best wishes to King Charles III and Queen Camilla in a tweet, adding that the council appreciates the King's dedication to environmental efforts.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that many of the developed economies are on verge of facing recession but India has zero probability of going into recession. Ms Sitharaman said that despite that we can not sit with complacency because as India has set a goal of becoming a developed and advanced economy by 2047. The Finance Minister said this at a function in Bengaluru on Saturday. Ms Sitharaman said, at present India is the fifth largest economy in the world and if it has to reach the third position and so on then it is not possible if we sit on this comfort factor that there is no recession. She said, to boost infrastructure, the Government of India has increased the spending from 4 lakh crore rupees in 2019 to 10 lakh crore rupees.
The UAE Ministry of Economy will host a special event to mark the first anniversary of the UAE-India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) during the Annual Investment Meeting at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center on Monday. The event, called CEPA Beyond Trade, will showcase the positive impact of the agreement on commercial and cultural exchange between the two countries over the past one year. CEPA Beyond Trade will include panel discussions with industry leaders from both the UAE and India.
India's Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has approved posting of Women Officers of the Territorial Army along the Line of Control. This progressive policy measure is aimed at enhancing the scope of employment of Women Officers as well as meeting their professional aspirations. They will now serve and train under the same conditions as their male counterparts in a wider range of units and appointments. Territorial Army had commenced commissioning of women Officers since 2019, in Ecological Task Force Units, TA Oil sector units and TA Railway Engineer Regiment. Based on the experience gained during this period, it has been decided to extend the scope of further employment for women officers in TA. The Territorial Army is based on a Citizen Soldiers' army concept and officers undergo Annual Training on basic military skills while remaining employed in civilian life.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will inaugurate the Indian Air Force Heritage Centre in Chandigarh on Monday. He will also lay the foundation stone for Centre for Cyber Ops and Security.
The Heritage Centre will comprise of artifacts, simulators and interactive boards, to highlight the various facets of operations in the Indian Air Force. It will showcase the important role played by Air Force for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief besides its combat capabilities. It will also house various vintage aircraft. The Heritage Centre will go a long way in motivating and inspiring the youth of this city in making a career in the Indian Air Force.

In the United States, at least eight people were killed and other seven injured as a gunman opened fire on shoppers at an outlet mall north of Dallas in Texas on Saturday. Hundreds of people were evacuated from the mall, as eyewitnesses described a man firing indiscriminately at passers-by. City police chief Brian Harvey said at a press conference that the gunman was killed by police after he began firing outside of the Allen Premium Outlets mall in Allen. In a statement, Medical City Healthcare said, its trauma centres were treating eight injured persons. In a statement, Texas Governor Greg Abbott described the shooting as an unspeakable tragedy. He assured that the state was prepared to offer any assistance local authorities may need.
Seven People's Liberation Army (PLA) aircraft, one anti-submarine helicopter (Ka-28) entered Taiwan's southwest air defence identification zone (ADIZ) on Friday, according to the Taiwanese Ministry of National Defense, MND. In response, Taiwan sent aircraft and naval ships and used land-based missiles to monitor the PLA aircraft and vessels, reported Taiwan News. So far this month, Beijing has sent 74 military aircraft and 27 naval vessels around Taiwan. Since September 2020, China has increased its use of grey zone tactics by routinely sending aircraft into Taiwan's ADIZ.
Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged the Commonwealth to send diversified election observers to Bangladesh during the next parliamentary elections. Official news agency BSS said that She made the observation when Commonwealth Secretary General Patricia Scotland paid a courtesy call on her in London on Sunday.
Briefing the media after the meeting, Foreign Minister Dr. A K Abdul Momen said that Prime Minister Hasina raised the issue of election and proposed the Commonwealth to send diversified election observers to oversee the next general elections. In reply, the Commonwealth Secretary General said they want to help Bangladesh in holding a peaceful, fair and participatory election in the country.
The Commonwealth Secretary General said that political commitment is required from all the parties that they would take part in elections and accept the result and will not indulge in violence whether they win or lose the elections. She also offered to train Bangladesh elections officers at the district level as they did in the past.

Governor Anusuiya Uikey has requested the people to maintain peace and communal harmony. Anti Terrorist squad of Uttar Pradesh Police conducted raids at the hideouts and offices of banned outfit PFI on Sunday. 70 people have been detained while two persons have been arrested during the one day operation carried out by Uttar Pradesh Police across the state. Maximum 11 people have been detained from Shamli district while 10 from Ghaziabad and 9 from Lucknow district.
As the campaigning in Karnataka for Assembly Elections will come to an end on Monday, top leaders of all political parties are making last ditch effort to woo the voters in their favour. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took up the second stretch of his road show in Bengaluru covering five Assembly constituencies. Before starting the road show Mr, Modi offered a floral tribute to Bengaluru founder Kempegowda at New Thippasandra. Later addressing a public meeting at Shivamogga, Prime Minister expressed gratitude towards the people of Bengaluru for turning up in huge numbers in his road show. Questioning the credibility of the Congress, Mr Modi said it can never fulfill promises made in its manifesto. He called the Congress’s promise of giving 10 lakh jobs in the next five years, a blatant lie. Mr. Modi said, during its 3.5 years of governance in Karnataka, BJP has created 13 lakh formal jobs every year. Highlighting the country's achievements in the field of agriculture, the Prime Minister said, India is now among the top ten agriculture exporter countries. Senior BJP leader Amit Shah participated in a roadshow in the Belagavi South Assembly constituency. Senior Congress leaders Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Rahul Gandhi also campaigned in the State. Addresseing a public meeting at Moodabidri, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said, the real issues in Karnataka are inflation, unemployment and rampant corruption. A new Border-Haat between India and Bangladesh was inaugurated in Bholaganj under the Companiganj upazila of Sylhet on Saturday. Bangladesh's Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmed and Indian Assistant High Commissioner Niraj Kumar Jaiswal jointly inaugurated the Border-Haat. The Border Haat will function on Wednesdays and Saturdays between 10 in the morning to 4 in the afternoon. Our Dhaka correspondent reports that the Bholaganj Border Haat will have 26 stalls from India and 24 stalls from Bangladesh where traditional items from both the countries will be sold duty free.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) team which visited Bangladesh between April 25 to 7th May to discuss recent macroeconomic development and the implementation of the USD 4 billion loan has flagged concern about some macro economic parameters of the country. Issuing a statement on the conclusion of the visit, IMF Mission Chief for Bangladesh Rahul Anand said Bangladesh remains one of the fastest growing economies in the Asia-Pacific region despite a challenging backdrop. However, its growth and foreign currency reserve is weighed down by persistent inflationary pressures, elevated volatility of global financial conditions, and slowdown in major advanced trading partners. The IMF statement issued in Dhaka on Sunday said that they took stock of the progress made toward meeting key commitments under the Fund-supported program.
In Canada, Alberta has declared a state of emergency after wildfires spread across the western part of the province, driving nearly 25,000 people from their homes. Faced with more than 100 wildfires, Alberta's Premier Danielle Smith called the situation unprecedented. Residents of Edson, a town of more than 8,000, were told to leave immediately. Ms Smith said a hot, dry spring had created and some 122,000 hectares (301,000 acres) had burned so far. Many of the fires are burning out of control, fanned by strong winds. The worst-hit areas include Drayton Valley, about 140km (87 miles) west of the provincial capital Edmonton, and Fox Lake, some 550km north of the city, where 20 homes were consumed by fire. Firefighting helicopters and air tankers have been brought in and the federal government has offered assistance from Ottawa. Edmonton Expo Centre is accommodating more than 1,000 evacuees and in the town of High Level a curling rink is being turned into a temporary shelter. Alberta is a major oil-producing region, but so far oil facilities do not appear to be in immediate danger.
The cyclonic circulation which developed on Saturday is laying over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining the South Andaman Sea. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the same region on Monday. India Meteorological Department, IMD has said, it is likely to intensify into a depression by Tuesday. Thereafter, it is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm while moving nearly northwards towards the central Bay of Bengal and adjoining the north Andaman Sea. The IMD said, sea condition is likely to be very rough from Tuesday onwards. Fishermen, small ships, boats and trawlers are advised not to venture into the sea in southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of the Andaman Sea.
India has opened a track of access road for the dry port up to Dodhara Chadani Municipality-1 of Kanchanpur. The access road track has been opened up to the Nepali border by cutting down around 2,000 trees in Indian territory for the dry port in Dodhara Chadani. Mayor of Dodhara Chadani Municipality Kishor Limbu shared that India has opened a track of access road up to the Nepal-India border from the national highway based in bordering Chakkarpur market. The construction of a dry port in Dodhara Chadani would directly connect Sudurapschim with India for trade. In addition, it would facilitate easy access to New Delhi and the industrial city of Rudrapur. A track of a four-lane access road having a length of around four kilometers has been opened which established connectivity between Chakarpur of Chambawat district of Uttarakhand, India and Nepali territory Gadigoth. Executive Director at Inter Model Transport Development Committee, Ashish Gajurel said India has agreed to construct all structures from dry port to integrated check post. For this purpose, a four-lane cemented bridge has been constructed over the Mahakali River for the dry port.

In the Asian Weightlifting Championship, India’s weight lifter Jeremy Lalrinnunga won a silver in snatch at Jinju,Korea on Sunday. The 20-year-old won a silver medal in the snatch event with a lift of 141kg in the 67 kg weight class. China’s He Yueji finished with the gold. Earlier, Bindyarani Devi clinched a silver medal in the women’s 55kg category at the Asian Weightlifting Championships. Sorokhaibam Bindyarani Devi on Saturday registered a combined lift of 194 kg to finish second on the podium. China’s Chen Guan Ling won the gold medal with a combined lift of 204 kg.
In the World Boxing Championship, Deepak Bohria of India defeated Olympic bronze medalist Saken Bibossinov 5-2 to go to the pre-quarterfinals of the 51-kg category of the World Boxing Championships in Tashkent on Sunday.
