Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina, will inaugurate the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline via video-conference today.
This is the first cross border energy pipeline between India and Bangladesh, built at an estimated cost of 377 crore rupees. Out of this, the Bangladesh portion of the pipeline, built at a cost of approximately 285 crore rupees, has been borne by the Government of India under grant assistance.
The Pipeline has a capacity to transport 1 Million Metric Ton Per Annum (MMTPA) of High-Speed Diesel (HSD). It will supply HSD initially to seven districts in northern Bangladesh.
The operation of India- Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline will put in place a sustainable, reliable, cost-effective and environment friendly mode of transporting HSD from India to Bangladesh and will further enhance cooperation in energy security between the two countries, said the Press release.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Global Millets (Shree Anna) Conference in New Delhi today. The Prime Minister will also address the gathering on the occasion. He will unveil a customised postal stamp and currency coin on the International Year of Millets - 2023. A video on Millets will also be released during the event with the announcement of ICAR-IIMR as the Global Centre of Excellence. The Conference will be attended by Agriculture Ministers of six countries, international scientists, nutritionists, health experts, start-up leaders and other stakeholders. It will witness participation from over 100 countries and several stakeholders will attend the event virtually from across the globe. More from our correspondent:
The two-day Conference will have sessions on a wide range of issues related to millets including promotion and awareness of millets among producers, consumers and other stakeholders; millets’ value chain development; health and nutritional aspects of millets, market linkages research and development and others. An Exhibition-cum- Buyer-Seller Meet with a focus on Millets will also be held with the participation of more than 50 domestic and international buyers, importers, exporters and processors for promotion of millets. The exhibition of more than 100 stalls will showcase millets and millet-based ready-to-cook and ready-to-eat products, by millet-based Startups, exporters, and live cooking sessions by various international and national chefs. Based on India’s proposal, the year 2023 was declared as the International Year of Millets by the United Nations General Assembly. Also, in line with the Prime Minister’s vision to make the celebrations of International Year of Millets 2023 a people’s movement and position India as the global hub for millets, all stakeholders, are being engaged to promote and spread awareness about the benefits of millets for the cultivator, consumer and climate. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of 352 development works worth 1450 crore rupees in Lucknow today. Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath will also be present on the occasion.
AIR correspondent reports that Defence Minister will be in Lucknow on a two-day visit from today. He will attend a Holi milan function organised by Lucknow Udyog Vyapar Mandal at Ram Lila Maidan. In the afternoon, he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of various developmental related projects at a function in Colvin ground. This includes inauguration of State Ground Water Informatics Centre and Bhujal Bhawan, Indian Institute of Information Technology Lucknow, 2256 Houses in Basant Kunj Yojna under PM Awas Yojna, 2256 Houses in Shardanagar vistar Yojna under PM Awas Yojna, government polytechnic in Bakshi Ka Talab and other projects. The Defence Minister will lay the foundation stone of 4512 Houses in Basant Kunj Yojna under PM Awas Yojna, bridge on Gaughat under green corridor and beautification of Butler Palace Lake and other projects.
Mr Singh will also visit a private hospital in Gomtinagar. On Sunday, he will attend a book launch ceremony at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Gomtinagar.
Chief Minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot has announced the formation of 19 new districts and three new divisional headquarters in the State. With this there will be 50 districts in the state. Mr Gehlot made the announcement while replying to the discussion on the Finance and Appropriation Bill in the Assembly yesterday.
The new Districts include Anupgarh, Gangapur City, Jaipur North, Jaipur South, Jodhpur East, Jodhpur West, and Shahpura among others. Banswara, Pali and Sikar shall be the new divisional headquarters.

The Reserve Bank of India has imposed a monetary penalty of five lakh rupees on Housing Development Finance Corporation Limited (HDFC) for failing to transfer matured deposits of certain depositors to their designated bank accounts during the period 2019-20. The apex bank has also imposed a monetary penalty of eleven lakh twenty five thousand rupees on IGH Holdings Private Limited for non-compliance of certain norms. RBI said the company had failed to comply with the statutory requirement of transferring 20 percent of the net profit as disclosed in its profit and loss account for the financial year 2020-21 to the Reserve Fund.

The second meeting of the Startup-20 engagement group, which has been newly formed under India’s G-20 Presidency, will begin in Gangtok, Sikkim today. The two day meeting will have delegates from G-20 member and invitee countries, representatives from multilateral organisations, and stakeholders from the Indian startup ecosystem. Startup-20 chair Dr. Chintan Vaishnav has said, the Sikkim Sabha offers a unique opportunity to bring the startup world to the pristine North East of India and showcase its unique and growing ecosystem. The Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) has cancelled three recruitment examinations including Group-I preliminary test that was conducted in October last year. The decision of the Commission came in light of the question paper leak relating to the Assistant Engineers' recruitment examinations. The Commission has decided to conduct the Group-I preliminary test again on the 11th of June.
In Kerala, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed chargesheet against 58 members of the banned Popular Front of India, PFI for hatching criminal conspiracies.
Those chargsheeted include the PFI's Kerala State General Secretaries Abdul Sathar and PK Usman. The chargesheet, filed before the Special NIA Court at Ernakulam, said investigations revealed that the accused were involved in spreading the concept of violent extremism with the objective of dismembering the country and taking it over by establishing Islamic rule by 2047.

Indian pugilists Jaismine Lamboria and Shashi Chopra have recorded impressive wins to progress to the next round of the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex in New Delhi yesterday.
Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Haryana’s Jaismine kicked off her campaign defeating Nyambega Beatrice Ambros of Tanzania in the 60kg category. Shashi Chopra also put up a dominating performance and outpunched Mwangi Teresiah of Kenya in 63kg category.
Meanwhile, three Indian boxers will be in action today. Preeti in 52-54 kg category, Bamboriya Mnaju in 63-66 kg and Nitu Ghanghas in 45-48 will enter the ring for their round of 32 matches.
