In Gujarat, polling is underway for the second and final phase of assembly elections today. Voting for 93 seats spread over 14 districts including Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Gandhinagar is taking place. Voting began at 8 am and will end at 5 pm.
34.74 percent voter turnout has been recorded till 1 p.m. Prime Minister Narendra Modi cast his vote at a polling booth set up at Nishan high school in Ranip area of Ahmadabad. Talking to media, Mr Modi appealed to all the eligible voters to vote in large numbers. He also thanked voters for participating in the festival of democracy.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel cast his vote at Shilaj in Ahmedabad. Gujarat Chief electoral officer P Bharti also cast her vote in Gandhinagar. Elaborate security arrangements have been made to ensure that no untoward incident happens during the polling. A large number of security personnel have been deployed in the poll bound districts. A total of 833 candidates are in the fray in this phase including 69 women candidates.
Polling is also underway for byelections to Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat and Rampur and Khatauli Assembly constituencies in Uttar Pradesh. Bypolls to Padampur Assembly seat in Odisha, Sardarshahar in Rajasthan, Kurhani in Bihar and Bhanupratappur in Chhattisgarh are also underway. The counting of votes will take place on 8th December.
Till 1 pm, 31.64 per cent polling has been recorded for the Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh. In Assembly bypolls, over 33 per cent voting in Khatauli and over 19 per cent in Rampur in Uttar Pradesh, 37 per cent in Kurhani in Bihar, 60 percent in Bhanupratapppur in Chhattisgarh, about 47 per cent in Padampur in Odisha and 36.6per cent in Sardarshahar in Rajashthan has been recorded.
Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh fell vacant following the demise of senior Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav. Samajwadi Party has fielded Dimple Yadav from Mainpuri who is a former MP and wife of Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav. Raghuraj Singh Shakya is the BJP’s candidate on this seat. Rampur seat fell vacant due to disqualification of Azam Khan after being sentenced in a hate speech case. A total of ten candidates including Akash Saxena of BJP and Aseem Raja of Samajwadi Party are contesting on this seat. Khatauli assembly seat fell vacant due to disqualification of BJP legislator Vikram Singh Saini after his conviction and sentence of a two-year imprisonment in a 2013 riot case. BJP has fielded Rajkumari Saini, while Madan Bhaiya is RLD-SP’s candidate. Congress and Bahujan Samaj Party are not contensting by-polls.

India's G20 Sherpa, Amitabh Kant has said that the priorities of India will not just reflect aspirations of the G20 partners but also of the Global South whose voice is often unheard. In his key note address on the second day of the G20 Sherpa Meeting in Udaipur today, Mr. Kant said, India's presidency will seek to advocate the oneness of all in accordance with the theme One Earth, One Family, One Future.

The government has convened an all party meeting tomorrow ahead of the Winter Session of Parliament. In the meeting, the Centre will seek cooperation from all political parties for smooth functioning of both the Houses of Parliament during the session.
The Winter Session of Parliament will start from the 7th of this month and it will continue till the 29th of December. The session will have 17 sittings spread over 23 days. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has expressed the need for international cooperation to control drugs and other illicit trafficking in the country. Speaking at the 65th founding day of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence in New Delhi today, the Minister said it is important to work in tandem with fellow countries and their agencies for which India has bilateral agreements for better access to the information. The Minister also called upon the officers of the departments for better use of technology to detect crime.
She added that protecting data is as important as protecting the border.
The Minister also raised concerns over the cocaine smuggling in India and it is a matter of great concern. She said that we need to know whether India becomes no longer a transit country or a consuming one. The Minister also unveiled “Smuggling in India Report 2021-22” which analyses organised smuggling trends, Commercial Frauds and International enforcement operations and cooperation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached BJP Headquarters in New Delhi to attend the two-day national office bearers' meeting of the party. The Prime Minister was received by party President JP Nadda.
During the meeting, Mr. Modi will address the party office bearers and provide guidance to them. The meeting will be presided over by BJP President JP Nadda. In the meeting, future strategies of the party will be discussed along with reviewing of preparations for the upcoming assembly elections.
The nine day session of the 15th Kerala Legislative Assembly began in Thiruvananthapuram today. However, the assembly adjourned for the day following the opposition ruckus over the alleged back-door appointments in the state. The opposition alleged that the state government bypassed the public service commission and employment exchange through illegal temporary appointments. Many important bills will be introduced during the session which is scheduled from December 5 to 15. The politically relevant bill to appoint academic experts by removing the Governor as the chancellor of state universities is also expected to be introduced in the ongoing session.
World Soil Day is being observed today. It is held annually on 5 December as a means to focus attention on the importance of healthy soil and to advocate for the sustainable management of soil resources. The theme of this year's World Soil Day is 'Soils: Where food begins'. The day aims to raise awareness of the importance of maintaining healthy ecosystems and human well-being. An international day to celebrate soil was recommended by the International Union of Soil Sciences in 2002.

The third T20 World Cup Cricket Tournament for the Blind will be inaugrated at Tau Devi Lal Indoor Stadium in Gurugram this afternoon. The participating nations are Australia, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and the host, India. A total of 150 players will participate in the tournament. A total of 24 matches will be played in 9 cities across the country.
On day one of the tournament tomorrow, three matches will be played, India will take on Nepal at 10 a.m. in Sledge Hammer Ground in Faridabad; Australia will clash with Sri Lanka at 9.30 am in DDA Siri Fort Sports Complex and Pakistan will meet South Africa at 9.30 a.m. at Saket Ground, New Delhi.
