Constitution Day is being celebrated across the country today to mark the adoption of the Indian Constitution by the Constituent Assembly. On this day in 1949, the Constituent Assembly of the country formally adopted the Constitution which came into force on 26th January 1950.
In his message, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar urged the people to take pledge to promote the values enshrined in Indian Constitution and strive to build a country that our founding fathers envisioned.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took part in the Constitution Day celebrations at the Supreme Court in New Delhi today. Addressing the gathering, Mr Modi asserted that India is strengthening the ideals of the constitution and the pro-people policies are empowering the poor and women of the country.
"प्रो पीपल पॉलिसीस की ताकत से आज देश और देश का गरीब, देश की माताएं बहनें उनका सशक्तिकरण हो रहा है। सामान्य मानवी के लिए आज कानूनों को सरल बनाया जा रहा है। टाइमली जस्टिस के लिए हमारी जुडिसरी भी लगातार कई सार्थक कदम उठा रही है। आज भी सुप्रीम कोर्ट द्वारा शुरू किए गए ई-इनीशिएटिव को लांच करने का अवसर मुझे मिला है। मैं इस शुरूआत के लिए और ईज ऑफ जस्टिस के प्रयासों के लिए मैं आप सभी को बधाई देता हूं।"
Referring to the first three words of the Preamble of the Constitution , ‘We the People’, Mr Modi said, it is a commitment, pledge and belief that has made India the mother of democracy.
"हमारे इस संविधान के प्रियएम्बल की शुरूआत में जो वि द पीपल लिखा है यह सिर्फ तीन शब्द नहीं हैं वि द पीपल एक आह्वान है, एक प्रतिज्ञा है, एक विश्वास है। संविधान में लिखी यह भावना उस भारत की मूल भावना है जो दुनिया में लोकतंत्र की जननी रहा है, मदर ऑफ डेमोक्रेसी रहा है। यही भावना हमें वैशाली के गणराज्य में भी दिखती है वेद की ऋचाओं में भी दिखती हैं।"
The Prime Minister described Indian Constitution as open, futuristic and known for its progressive views, saying its spirit is youth centric.
"संविधान निर्माताओं ने हमें एक ऐसा संविधान दिया है जो ओपन है, फ्यूचरिस्टिक है और अपने आधुनिक विजन के लिए जाना जाता है। इसलिए स्वाभाविक तौर पर हमारे संविधान की स्प्रीट युथ सेंटरिक है। आज स्पोर्ट्स हो या स्टार्ट-अप, इंफार्मेशन टेक्नोलॉजी हो या डिजिटल पेमेंट्स। भारत के विकास के हर आयाम में युवा शक्ति अपना परचम लहरा रही है।"
Mr. Modi said, India will take over the Presidency of G20 in a week's time and it must be ensured that the country's image as the mother of democracy is strengthened.
On the occasion, Mr Modi also paid homage to those who lost their lives in the Mumbai Terror Attacks on its 14th anniversary today.
During the programme, the Prime Minister launched various new initiatives under the e-court project. The project is an effort to provide services to litigants, lawyers and the judiciary through information and communication technology.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud said, technologies are being adopted to improve the working of courts.
Speaking at the event, Law Minister Kiren Rijiju highlighted the need to encourage use of local languages in courts.
Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh inaugurated the 25th National e-Governance Conference at Katra in Jammu and Kashmir. The theme of the two-day conference. is "Bringing Citizens, Industry and Government closer". About 1600 delegates from States and Union Territories and officials from Central Ministries and departments are attending the two-day meeting.
In Gujarat, campaigning continues in full swing for the first phase of assembly elections. BJP President JP Nadda released party’s manifesto for the assembly polls at Gandhinagar today. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Nadda said, after coming to power, the party would implement Uniform Civil Code in the next five years and set up anti radicalization cell to curb the anti social elements. Mr Nadda said the party is aiming to take Gujarat’s economy to one trillion dollars in coming years. The manifesto also promises 20 lakh new jobs generation in the state. Our correspondent reports that the party made 40 promises relating to health, education and infrastructure development in the manifesto.
"In the manifesto, the BJP promised 10 thousand crore rupees future investment in the agriculture infrastructure while 25 thousand crore rupees in strengthening the irrigation network. Other features of the manifesto include creation of 20 lakh new jobs in five years, free of cost education to females from KG to PG, development of 20 thousand government schools as school of excellence, doubling the health cover under Ayushman Bharat scheme from 5 lakh to 10 lakh and the launch of Gujarat Olympics Mission with an aim to host Olympics in 2036. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) sucessfully launched PSLV C 54 rocket from Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh today. The mission payloads including Earth observation satellite Oceansat and eight other nano satellites have separated in two different sun synchronous orbits. ISRO Chairman S.Somnath said that specific data from the Earth observation satellite will be used by the Government departments. More from our correspondent:

Nation is remembering martyrs and victims of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks on its 14th anniversary today.
In her message, President Droupadi Murmu paid homage to the security personnel who fought valiantly and made supreme sacrifice in the line of duty during the Mumabi attacks.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said, the country has not forgotten the incident of 26/11, nor it will ever forget.
External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar said that terrorism threatens humanity. Remembering the Mumbai terror attack, Dr. Jaishankar said, those who planned and oversaw this attack must be brought to justice.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur said, the country will always be indebted to the supreme sacrifice of these bravehearts.

In Chhattisgarh, three Maoists, including a female rebel were killed in an encounter with security forces this morning. The exchange of fire took place at the jungle of Pomra at Bijapur district in Bastar division when a joint team of CRPF, Special Task Force and District Reserve Guard was on an search operation in Mirtur area. After the encounter, bodies of three Maoists have been recovered along with two rifles from the spot.
An impressive Passing-out Parade was held at the Indian Naval Academy (INA) at Ezhimala in the Kannur district of Kerala today.
