Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Jammu yesterday evening on a three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir. Mr. Shah was received at the airport by Lieutenant Governer Manoj Sinha, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh and senior BJP leaders among others. Home Minister will address a mega rally in Rajouri today. He is likely to chair a high level security meeting in Srinagar.
"Union Home Minister Amit Shah after reaching Raj Bhawan, Jammu last evening, met civil society groups, top businessmen and delegations of various organizations. The Home Minister will head towards Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine in Trikuta Hills in Reasi district in the morning today and will perform a special pooja at Mata Vaishno Bhawan on the eve of Ramnavami.
After paying obeisance at Vaishno Devi Temple, Shah will proceed towards border district of Rajouri, where he will address a massive rally at Rajouri Bus Stand. The Home Minister is likely to make an announcement of giving Scheduled Tribe status to the Pahari population of twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch during the rally. In the afternoon, Shah will meet a selected group of BJP leaders at the Convention Center, Jammu and will also launch some developmental projects and lay the foundation stone of some new projects before leaving for Srinagar in the evening. On October 5, the Home Minister will address a mega public rally at Baramulla Sports Stadium. He will also chair a high-level security meeting along with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Army, security force officials, officials of the Home Ministry and various security agencies at Raj Bhavan, Srinagar in the afternoon. President Droupadi Murmu will lay the foundation stone for various projects related to education and tribal development at Gujarat University in Ahmedabad today. The President, who is on a two-day visit to Gujarat, will also launch 'herStart', a start-up platform of Gujarat University for women entrepreneurs in Ahmedabad. HerSTART is one of flagship programmes of Gujarat University Startup and Entrepreneurship Council’s (GUSEC) which seeks to support women entrepreneurs during their entrepreneurial endeavours.
Yesterday, President inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for various projects worth 1,330 crore rupees at the GMERS campus in Gandhinagar. Addressing the gathering, Ms Murmu said, these projects will contribute to the people’s welfare. The President lauded Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat’s efforts toward spreading awareness about natural farming among farmers. The President said, farmers of Gujarat have come up with several successful experiments in the field of agriculture development. She said, Gujarat holds a 20 per cent share in National Agriculture Produce.
Information and Broadcasting Ministry has again issued an advisory to media to refrain from publishing advertisements of online betting platforms. It said, some online offshore betting platforms have started using news websites as a surrogate product to advertise their betting platforms on TV channels. The Ministry has written a letter to Private Satellite Television Channels and online curated content (OTT platforms). The advisory said that gambling is prohibited in most parts of the country, and it poses significant financial and socio-economic risk for the consumers, especially youth and children. The Ministry said, it has observed that promotional content and advertisements of betting platforms are still visible on certain news platforms and OTT platforms.
Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Russian national for allegedly hacking the iLeon software - the platform on which the JEE (Mains) 2021 examination was conducted. Mikhail Shargin was held in course of the ongoing investigation into a case related to allegations of irregularities being committed in the JEE (Mains) Exams 2021. He hacked the software, CBI said. Shargin was detained by the Bureau of Immigration at the IGI Airport in Delhi after arriving from Almaty, Kazakhstan.
State Bank of India has warned against freebies, saying they have large fiscal costs and cause inefficiencies by distorting prices and misallocating resources. Citing an example of just three states, SBI's chief economic adviser Soumya Kanti Ghosh said annual pension liabilities of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Rajasthan are estimated at 3 lakh crore rupees. In its economic report, SBI suggested that the Supreme Court-led panel cap such welfare schemes at 1 percent of the state's GDP or 1 perent of its own tax collection. The report said, in relation to these states' own tax revenues, pension liabilities of Jharkhand are 217 percent, Rajasthan 190 percent and Chhattisgarh 207 percent. The SBI report also flagged the off-budget borrowings of states, which are loans raised by state-owned entities and guaranteed by the states, to have reached around 4.5 percent of GDP in 2022.
The DGP of Jammu and Kashmir Prisons Department, Hemant Kumar Lohia, was found dead at his residence in Jammu under mysterious circumstances last night. Police have started an investigation from all angles, including murder. His servant is being suspected to have murdered him. Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Jammu zone, Mukesh Singh, said the domestic help is absconding and a search for him has started.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya participated in a cycle rally in New Delhi yesterday to raise public awareness on TB elimination and non-communicable diseases. In a tweet, Dr Mandaviya said, he cycled at Kartavya Path with hardworking and talented students from AIIMS, New Delhi to raise public awareness on TB elimination. He said, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's goal, government is committed to make India TB Free by 2025.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Himachal Pradesh tomorrow to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of projects worth over three thousand 650 crore rupees. During the visit, he will inaugurate AIIMS Bilaspur, which foundation stone was also laid by the Prime Minister in October 2017. The AIIMS, constructed at a cost of over one thousand 470 crore rupees, is a state-of-the-art hospital with 18 specialty and 17 super specialty departments, 18 modular operation theaters and 750 beds. Spread over 247 acres, the hospital is equipped with 24 hours emergency and dialysis facilities. Talking to AIR News, Himachal Pradesh Cheif Minister Jai Ram Thakur said:

Indian Railways has converted 500 Mail Express trains to Superfast category. In addition to this, 130 services (65 pairs) have also been speeded up by converting to Superfast category. The speeding up of trains is between 10 minutes to 70 minutes. The Ministry of Railways informed about this development by releasing its new All India Railway Time Table known as “TRAINS AT A GLANCE" on its offcial website. The new time table came into force on Saturday. The Ministry said, punctuality of Mail Express trains during the year 2022-23 is about 84 percent which is about 9 percent more than the punctuality achieved during 2019-20.
Swedish geneticist Svante Paabo has won the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for discoveries that provides our understanding of how modern day humans evolved from extinct ancestors. The award’s panel said, his study also provides key insights into immune system and human's uniqueness compared with their extinct cousins. Paabo's key achievements include sequencing an entire Neanderthal genome to reveal the link between extinct people and modern humans.
Sixty-seven year old Paabo performed his prizewinning studies in Germany at the University of Munich and at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig. Paabo is the son of Sune Bergstrom, who won the Nobel prize in medicine in 1982.

Star Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022, starting 16th of this month due to back injury. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that its Medical team has ruled out Bumrah from the squad after a detailed assessment and in consultation with the specialists. The BCCI said, it will announce a replacement soon.
The 28-year-old, one of the best bowlers in the world, initially pulled out of India's ongoing three-match T20 series against South Africa with a back injury.
At the ICC competition, India is in Group 2 with Pakistan, Bangladesh, South Africa, and two qualifiers.
In Cricket, the third and final T20 International between India and South Africa will be played today at Holkar Stadium in Indore. The match will start at 7 PM.
