The Union Cabinet has today extended the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana scheme for another three months from October to December this year. The Minister informed that 44 thousand 762 crore rupees would be spent over the next three months. He said, the Government has spent approximately three lakh 45 thousand crore rupees so far under the scheme. Mr Thakur said, the scheme cover nearly 80 crore beneficiaries across the country and it has been under implementation since April 2020.
The Union Cabinet has also approved a four per cent increase in the Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief. Briefing reporters after the Cabinet meeting in New Delhi, Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur said, this will benefit Central government employees and pensioners.
"प्रधानमंत्री गरीब कल्याण अन्न योजना में अब तक कुल मिलाकर तीन लाख 45 हजार करोड़ रुपये का खर्चा पहले से छठे चरण तक आया है और ये सातवां चरण जो अक्टूबर से दिसम्बर 2022 तक का है। इस पर 44 हजार सात सौ 62 करोड रुपये की अनुमानित सब्सिडी होगी जो लगभग 122 लाख मिट्रिक टन खाद्यान देश के 80 करोड़ से ज्यादा गरीबों को मिलेगा और ये त्यौहार के सीजन में जरूरतमंद गरीब के चेहरे पर मुस्कुराहट भी लाएगा।"
The Government has approved the Indian Railways’ proposal for the redevelopment of three major railway stations. These are New Delhi railway station, Ahemdabad and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Mumbai. The project involves an investment of approximately ten thousand crore rupees. Briefing reporters about the Cabinet decisions in New Delhi, Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, the redevelopment work of three railway stations will be completed in two to three years.
Mr Vaishnaw said, it will result in the creation of 35,744 new jobs. He said, it will improve the daily experience of more than two million travellers and also help the local economy through investment.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that today's Cabinet decision to extend the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Ann Yojana will benefit crores of people across India and ensure support during this festive season. In a tweet, Mr Modi said, India's infrastructure has to be futuristic and today's Cabinet decision on the redevelopment of New Delhi, Ahmedabad and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus reflects this vision of the Government. He said, these stations will be modernised and further Ease of Living.
The Government today appointed Lieutenant General Anil Chauhan (Retired) as the next Chief of Defence Staff (CDS). Lt Gen Chauhan will also function as Secretary, Department of Military Affairs with effect from the date of his assumption of charge. In a career spanning nearly 40 years, Lt Gen Anil Chauhan had held several command, staff and instrumental appointments and had extensive experience in counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir and North-East India. The post of Chief of Defence Staff has been lying vacant since General Bipin Rawat's death in a helicopter crash on the 8th of December last year.
"Born on 18th May 1961, Lt Gen Anil Chauhan was commissioned into the 11 Gorkha Rifles of the Indian Army in 1981. He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla and Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. In the rank of Major General, the officer had commanded an Infantry Division in the critical Baramula sector in the Northern Command. Later as Lt General, he commanded a corps in the North East and subsequently went to become the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Command from September 2019 and held the charge until his retirement from the service in May 2021. In addition to these command appointments, Lt Gen Chauhan also tenanted important staff appointments including the charge of Director General of Military Operations. Earlier, he had also served as a United Nations mission to Angola. For his distinguished and illustrious service in the Army, Lt General Anil Chauhan (Retired) was awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Uttam Yudh Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Sena Medal and Vishisht Seva Medal."
Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav has said that India is the first country with a cooling action plan based on energy efficiency and thermal comfort, and has launched important initiatives including UJALA Yojana and schemes for industrial energy efficiency. Addressing the Ministerial Roundtable for Green Economy at the World Green Economy Summit at the World Trade Centre in Dubai today Bhupender Yadav said, accelerating low carbon transition across different economic sectors is the need of the hour. He also stressed the importance of addressing environmental and climate objectives alongside economic development.
After the Roundtable, the Minister also had a bilateral meeting with the United Arab Emirates, UAE, Minister of State for Foreign Trade Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi. In the meeting, both the leaders discussed issues relating to the upcoming Conference of Parties, COP 27, COP 28, MoU on Climate Actions between India and UAE, and global initiatives spearheaded by these countries for combating climate change.

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today named the Chandigarh International Airport as Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport on the occasion of the 115th birth anniversary of Shaheed e Azam Bhagat Singh. Last Sunday in his Mann Ki Baat programme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the renaming of the Chandigarh International Airport after the name of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and paid a tribute to him.

The field units of the Department of Telecommunications DoT in coordination with Telecom Service Providers and law enforcement agencies have unearthed operations of 30 illegal telecom set-ups in the last four months which were used to route ISD calls. Fraudsters use illegal telecom set-ups to route ISD calls received through internet VoIP illegally to domestic mobile and wireline customers in India. Illegal telecom setups primarily use internet connectivity on one side and connect to domestic mobile and landline networks for distribution of calls which is not allowed as per regulations. Such illegal setups pose a security threat and revenue loss to the Government.
The Department of Telecommunications has requested the public to report such illegal establishments to its call centre. The call centre having numbers 1800110420 and 1963 has been set up for reporting the cases by the public on receiving any international call displaying Indian mobile or landline number.
The Central Government has banned today the Popular Front of India (PFI) and its associates and affiliates for five years under the UAPA Act. In its notification, the Union Home Ministry said, the PFI and its associates and affiliates including Rehab India Foundation, Campus Front of India, All India Imams Council, National Confederation of Human Rights Organisation, National Women’s Front, Junior Front, Empower India Foundation and Rehab Foundation, Kerala have been involved in the violent terrorist activities with an intent to create a reign of terror in the country.
Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today said that the State will take appropriate action to ensure that the ban imposed on the Popular Front of India and its associates/affiliates/fronts is strictly followed. Speaking to reporters in Mumbai, Mr. Fadnavis said there is enough proof to establish that PFI and its associates were sowing seeds of violence to destroy communal harmony.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested Sameer Mahendru, owner of Indospirit, in the Delhi Excise Policy case. The ED case is based on the CBI FIR in this matter. Yesterday, the CBI arrested Vijay Nair, the aide of Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Communications Chief of the Aam Aadmi Party, in the same case.

At around 11:30 AM, he will flag off the Ahmedabad Metro rail project and will take a metro ride from Kalupur station to Doordarshan Kendra metro station. At around noon, the Prime Minister will inaugurate Phase-I of the Ahmedabad Metro project at a public function at the Ahmedabad Education Society in Ahmedabad. Thereafter, at around 5:45 PM, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone and dedicate various projects worth over seven thousand 200 crore rupees in Ambaji. Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Anurag Thakur will launch Clean India 2.0 Programme on the 1st of next month. This month-long nationwide programme will be launched to collect waste material mainly single-use plastic and create awareness among people.
