The Prime Minister was addressing the gathering after inaugurating a two-day Centre-State Science Conclave at Science city, Ahmedabad through video conferencing.
Mr. Modi asked states to provide all necessary support to the scientists and give thrust in building science and technology institutes in the state. He said, the number of innovation labs should also be increased in the institutions of higher education in the states. He also highlighted the need to take scientific research to the grass roots level and find science based solutions to the local problems.
The Prime Minister said his Government is working with the vision of science based development and since 2014 there has been a substantial increase in investment in the field of science and technology. Mr. Modi said, everyone has to work on many fronts simultaneously to make India a global center of research and innovation in this Amrit Kaal. The Prime Minister said, there is a need to take the research related to science and technology to the local level to address the problems faced by the people. INDIA-CHINA
The embassy of India in Beijing has issued a detailed advisory highlighting various challenges for prospective students seeking a medical degree from China. The clarifying advisory was issued on Friday in response to several queries from prospective Indian students and their parents with respect to seeking admission to the undergraduate clinical medicine programme in China. It clarified their queries about issues related to the quality of clinical medicine undergraduate programme in China, mandatory learning of Mandarin, the poor pass percentage of Indian students passed out from Chinese medical colleges in FMGE, and the issues related to ‘Dynamic Zero Covid Policy’ of China which is making travel to China very difficult. More than 20000 Indian students mostly enrolled in medical courses in Chinese universities are waiting to return to China for more than 2.5 years due to COVID-related restrictions and a ban on direct flights to and from India. China has now started giving visas but due to the non-availability of direct flights, it is a very costly affair to travel to China through a transit route.
The advisory said that prospective Indian students who wish to seek admission to an undergraduate clinical medicine programme in China are required to obtain a license to practice medicine in China before they appear for the Foreign Medical Graduates Exam (FMGE) in India. It further said that such prospective Indian students are also required to clear the NEET-UG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Under Graduate) exam, which is the entrance examination for undergraduate medical education in India, as a prerequisite to pursuing medical education abroad. Only such students - after completing their degree program - can appear in FMGE which is required to pursue clinical medical practice in India.
INDIA-CHINA-LAC
India and China have mutually agreed to take the talks forward and resolve the remaining issues along Line of Actual Control (LAC) and restore peace and tranquility in the border areas after both the sides started the disengagement process at Gogra-Hot Springs (PP-15) area on Thursday. Commenting on the disengagement announcement by both sides, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning said that beginning of the disengagement at Gogra-Hot Springs (PP-15) area is a positive development that is conducive to peace and tranquility along the border. She added that China is committed to properly handling relevant issues through communication and dialogue. Ms Mao Ning further said that the agreement was the outcome of multiple rounds of talks between both military and diplomatic levels and is conducive to peace and tranquility along border areas. As per the agreement, the two sides have decided to cease forward deployments in this area in a phased, coordinated and verified manner, resulting in the return of the troops of both sides to their respective areas. infrastructure created in the area by both sides will be dismantled and mutually verified.
TAIWAN-CHINA AIRCRAFTS
Chinese aircraft have reportedly cut across the median line of the Taiwan Strait.
The line of Taiwan Strait is a 180-kilometre-wide strait that separates the island of Taiwan and continental Asia, and unofficially acts as a barrier falling between the two sides.
This happened amid the continuing military activities by China around the island nation.
These exercises by the PLA have increased after US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan last month.
GERMAN - BEIJING COVID
Germany’s new Ambassador to China, Patricia Flor came down heavily on Beijing’s ‘zero-COVID’ policy, inward-looking practices and politically motivated and unfair trade restrictions for causing massive upheavals in international markets. She called upon China to allow for meaningful dialogues. At a forum of Centre for China and Globalization (CCG) Forum held recently in Beijing, Ms. Flor was making her first public speech after assuming office. In her speech, she also said that rising geopolitical tensions across the globe viz. Russia-Ukraine war and instability around Taiwan and in Asia would inevitably impact major economic players including major shipping routes for international trade and food and energy markets. She said China as a member of the UN Security Council has a big responsibility in maintaining peace and stability in the world and in its own region. Media reports last week said that Germany will expand its military presence in the Indo-Pacific by sending more warships and joining drills with allies as it keeps an eye on the "enormous" build-up of China's armed forces.
