Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the government has brought in several reforms which have furthered the Ease of Doing Business. In a tweet, Mr Modi said, many outdated laws which slowed down growth have been removed. With the Mantra of Reform, Perform and Transform, India has emerged as the fastest-growing major economy in the world.
Prime Minister Modi has shared details of reforms during the last eight years in the field of Ease of Doing Business and for spreading widespread prosperity and encouraging entrepreneurship. He shared a MyGov tweet thread and articles from his website and Namo App.
The 12th World Trade Organisation, WTO Ministerial Conference will begin from tomorrow in Geneva, Switzerland after a gap of almost five years. The key areas of discussions and negotiations in this year’s conference include WTO’s response to the pandemic, Fisheries subsidies negotiations and Agriculture issues including Public Stockholding for Food security.
The Indian delegation will be headed by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal. The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has adopted an India-sponsored resolution on multilingualism that mentions the Hindi language for the first time. The resolution passed on Friday urges the United Nations to continue spreading vital communications and messages in both official and non-official languages, including Hindi.
India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations T. S. Tirumurti said, multilingualism is acknowledged as a basic principle of the United Nations and expressed gratitude to the Secretary-General for supporting multilingualism. He said, for the first time, the Hindi language is mentioned in the resolution besides Bangla and Urdu for the first time in the resolution.
As part of these efforts, 'Hindi @ UN' project was launched in 2018 with an objective to enhance the public outreach of the United Nations in the Hindi language and to spread greater awareness about global issues among millions of Hindi-speaking populations around the world
The six official languages of the United Nations are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish, with English and French serving as working languages for the UN Secretariat.
President of European Chamber of Commerce in China (EUCCC), Joerg Wuttke in an exclusive interview with Prasar Bharati Beijing has said that the “Zero-COVID” policy of China is a disaster. He said, rather than repeated lockdowns and mass testing which are damaging China’s demand structure, the country should focus more on increasing the vaccination of elderly people which is not picking up.
Mr. Wuttke said that China may continue its Zero Covid policy even after the 20th party congress as there is no exit policy from it, unless the rising ‘unemployment’ among youth which experts say is 30% in urban areas, forces the Chinese government to rethink it.
In a special gesture towards people of Mongolia, four Holy Relics of Lord Buddha are being taken from India to Mongolia for an 11-day exposition as part of celebrations of Mongolian Buddh Purnima falling on 14th of this month. A 25-member delegation, led by Union Minister of Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju accompanying the sacred relics will leave for Mongolia tomorrow. The Holy Relics will be displayed at the Batsagaan Temple within the premises of Gandan Monastery.
The Holy Buddha Relics, currently housed in the National Museum, are known as the ‘Kapilvastu Relics’ since they are from a site in Bihar first discovered in 1898 which is believed to be the ancient city of Kapilvastu.

The High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Vikram Doraiswami inaugurated a five storied women’s hostel at Sylhet on Saturday. Umesh Chandra-Nirmalabala Chhatrabas at Chalibandar in Sylhet has been constructed with a financial assistance from the government of India. The hostel can accommodate 160 women students. It will be run on a non-profit basis by the Umesh Chandra-Nirmalabala Chhatrabas Trust.
After the inauguration of the women’s hostel, the High Commissioner alongwith Bangla Desh Ministers jointly inaugurated three more projects. These projects have been funded by the Government of India and implemented by the Sylhet City Corporation.
All the three projects are focussed towards improving the lives of the local community.
In Bolivia, a court on Friday found former President Jeanine Anez Chávez guilty of mounting a coup in 2019 and sentenced to 10 years in prison. She has been convicted of making decisions contrary to the constitution and of dereliction of duty. Prosecutors said, Anez violated norms that guaranteed the constitutional and democratic order after Bolivia's 2019 Presidential Elections. Anez, then the most senior member of the country's Parliament, ascended to the Presidency after President Evo Morales resigned in 2019. Morales, who ruled Bolivia for nearly 14 years by then, resigned after people and the military called on him to go following a disputed election result in October 2019.
Anez, who has been detained since March 2021 on initial charges of terrorism, sedition and conspiracy, was not allowed to attend the trial in person.
In United States, the Labour Department said yesterday that inflation rose unexpectedly last month, as rising energy and food costs to the highest rate since 1981.
The Labour Department said, annual inflation rate rose to 8.6 per cent in May, after easing in April. Food prices were up more than 10 per cent last month compared to May last year while energy surged more than 34 per cent. Gas prices have been soaring across the US, approaching five dollars a gallon this week, from 1.90 dollars more than a year ago.

Russia strongly has condemned the Israeli airstrike at the Damascus International Airport and called on the Israeli side to halt such activities. Russian Foreign Ministry's spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said today that such strikes create risks for international air traffic. Meanwhile, Syria announced today the suspension of all flights at Damascus airport following the overnight Israeli missile strikes on sites south of the Syrian capital. This is the third Israeli airstrike on what it calls Iranian sites inside Syria this week.
Italian authorities today said that a helicopter that disappeared from air traffic radar screens on Thursday was located and all seven on board were killed. According to news reports, a hiker passing through the area near Monte Cusna called authorities after finding possible remains of the crash. Reports from the Modena Prefect in Emilia Romagna said the pilot, an Italian, plus four Turkish citizens and two from Lebanon were killed in the accident. Italian authorities had been conducting a search for the helicopter and its passengers since Thursday when the chopper was lost en route from the Tuscan city of Lucca to Treviso, a city located north of Venice.The aircraft went down after hitting an area of bad weather. Italian officials have not issued a statement about the potential cause of the crash.
