India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that people-centric governance and continuous effort towards good governance are the hallmarks of last eight years of his government.
Inaugurating the Iconic Week Celebrations of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Corporate Affairs in New Delhi on Monday, Mr Modi said, India has taken new steps every day and tried to do new work in the last eight years. He added, the government has speed up the development of the nation and empowered the poor. Mr Modi said, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan gave an opportunity to the poor to live a life of dignity.
The Prime Minister said, permanent dwelling, electricity, gas, water, free treatment have given deserving respect to poor.
Mr. Modi said, the scheme of free rations during the Corona period, freed more than 80 crore countrymen from the fear of hunger. He said, nation has suffered a lot due to the previous government-centric governance. Mr Modi said, on Monday, India has moved forward with people-centric governance.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the youth of the country have been kept at the heart of the government reforms in the last eight years.
Mr Modi said that the GeM portal has brought in new ease for procurement in government and made selling to the government very easy.
Talking about 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav', the Prime Minister said, it is not just a celebration of 75 years of independence, but it is also a moment to celebrate, fulfill, pump new vigour into the dreams for an independent India seen by the freedom fighters.
The Prime Minister also launched the national portal for credit-linked government schemes - 'Jan Samarth' Portal. The portal is a first of its kind platform which directly connects beneficiaries to lenders. The main purpose of 'Jan Samarth' portal is to encourage inclusive growth and development of various sectors by guiding and providing them with the right type of government benefits through simple and easy digital processes. Mr Modi said, this portal will improve the lives of students, farmers, businessmen, MSME entrepreneurs and will help them in realizing their dreams.
On the occasion, a special series of five new coins dedicated to 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' have been launched. These special coins of denominations of one, two, five, ten and twenty rupees coins are visually impaired friendly.
NIRMALA-BRICS
Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said that India’s economic growth will continue to be supported by fiscal spending along with an investment push. The Indian Minister participated in the second BRICS Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting on Monday.
During the virtual meeting, Ms Sitharaman observed that BRICS should continue to serve as a platform to engage in dialogue and facilitate exchange of experiences, concerns and ideas for rebuilding a sustainable and inclusive growth trajectory. The agenda of the meeting included discussions on outcomes of BRICS Financial Cooperation agenda for 2022. This included discussion on BRICS Joint Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Statement,
Infrastructure Investments, New Development Bank and BRICS Think Tank Network for Finance.

MEA- OIC
New Delhi has categorically rejected Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Secretariat's comments on India and termed them unwarranted and narrow-minded. In response to media queries regarding the recent statement by General Secretariat of the OIC, External Affairs Ministry Spokesman Arindam Bagchi said, Government of India accords the highest respect to all religions. He said, the offensive tweets and comments denigrating a religious personality were made by certain individuals and do not, in any manner, reflect the views of the government. The Spokesman pointed out that strong action has already been taken against these individuals by relevant bodies. He called it regrettable that OIC Secretariat has yet again chosen to make motivated, misleading and mischievous comments. He stressed that this only exposes OIC's divisive agenda being pursued at the behest of vested interests. India urged the OIC Secretariat to stop pursuing its communal approach and show due respect to all faiths and religions.
AGNI-TEST
India successfully Test Fired Agni-4 Intermediate-Range Ballistic Missile on Monday.A successful training launch of Agni-4, was carried out from APJ Abdul Kalam Island in Odisha.
The Defence Ministry said, successful test was part of routine user training launches carried out under the aegis of the Strategic Forces Command. The launch validated all operational parameters as also the reliability of the system. Ministry said, the successful test reaffirms country's policy of having a credible minimum deterrence capability.
RAJNATH-DAC
India's Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) headed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has cleared proposals worth 76 thousand 390 crore rupees to boost self reliance in defence sector.
The DAC accorded fresh Acceptance of Necessity for procurement of rough terrain fork lift trucks, bridge laying tanks, wheeled armoured fighting vehicles for the army. The DAC also accorded Acceptance of Necessity for procurement of Next Generation Corvettes (NGCs) at an estimated cost of 36 thousand crore rupees. These NGCs would be constructed based on new in-
house design of Indian Navy using latest technology of ship building and would contribute to boost the Government’s initiative of Security and Growth for all in the Region (SAGAR). The DAC also accorded Acceptance of Necessity for manufacture of Dornier Aircrafts and Su-30 MKI aero-engines. Digital Coast Guard project under buy Indian category has been approved by the DAC. Under this project, a pan India secure network for digitizing of various surface and aviation operations, logistics, finance and HR processes in Coast Guard will be established.
JAISHANKAR-PRAGUE
External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar who is in Czech Republic, interacted with the Indian community in Prague on Monday. In a tweet, he said, good to see many of them doing so well.
The External Affairs Minister said, the expansion of the community has also been encouraging.
Dr Jaishankar shared with them developments at home and the state of India-Czech Republic bilateral relationship.
JONSON-NO CONFIDENCE
The British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will face a vote of confidence in his leadership of the Conservative Party on Monday. The vote follows weeks of disquiet within the ruling Conservative Party, with several members of Parliament and former ministers voicing their concerns over the partygate scandal of illegal gatherings at Downing Street during the COVID-19 lockdowns. A section of Conservative Party members opined that it has damaged the party’s credibility in the eyes of the voters. According to media reports, Johnson is likely to win such a vote but it will deliver a blow to his leadership. Under the current Conservative Party rules, if Johnson wins, it would rule out another similar no-confidence vote for at least 12 months.
UK-UKRAINE ARM SUPPLY
Russia has warned that Western deliveries of longer-range arms to Kyiv would compel them to push Ukrainian forces further back from its borders. Addressing a press conference in Moscow on Monday ,Russian foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that if western countries supply long range missile systems then they will retaliate strongly. Although the United States has ruled out sending its own or NATO forces to Ukraine but Washington and Britain have agreed to supply precision missile systems which have significantly longer ranges than previous weapons they delivered.
Earlier, President Vladimir Putin warned the United States in an interview broadcast on Sunday that Russia would strike new targets if the West provide longer-range missiles to Ukraine for use in high-precision mobile rocket systems.
BANGLADESH-TOLL
In Bangladesh, the death toll in the Container depot fire accident has risen to 49.
A fire service press release said that nine firemen were killed and more than 15 firemen suffered injuries during the firefighting. More than 300 injured people are undergoing treatment at different hospitals in Chattogram.
The fire incident started on Saturday night at the B M Inland Container depot in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram district. It quickly spread in the depot causing multiple blasts in containers believed to be storing highly inflammable material for export.
WHO-MONKEYPOX
The World Health Organisation has said that a total of 780 laboratory-confirmed cases of monkeypox have been reported since till 2nd June from 27 countries. The UN's health agency said, the most affected countries are Cameroon, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gabon, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone. It said,Benin and South Sudan have documented importations in the past. Countries currently reporting cases of the West African clade are Cameroon and Nigeria.
While the West African clade of the virus has been identified from samples of cases so far, most confirmed cases with travel history reported travel to countries in Europe and North America,rather than West or Central Africa where the monkeypox virus is endemic.
HOCKEY
In Hockey, India beat Poland 6-4 in final to clinch the inaugural FIH Hockey 5s championship in Lausanne in Switzerland on Sunday. India, ended their campaign with an unbeaten record.
Earlier, India first outplayed Malaysia 7-3, pumping in four goals in the second half in a stunning show before beating Poland 6-2 in the second match of the day. India had topped the five-team standings after the round-robin league stage with 10 points from three wins and one draw. India had beaten hosts Switzerland 4-3 and drawn with arch-rivals Pakistan 2-2.
WRESTLING
In Wrestling, National champion Aman Sehrawat clinched gold medal while Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist Bajrang Punia settled for bronze of the 2022 Bolat Turlykhanov Cup wrestling tournament in Almaty, Kazakhstan on Sunday. With the two more medals, India concluded the United World Wrestling's ranking series with 11 medals - six golds, one silver, and four bronze. Five of the golds were won by women.

At the stock markets, the Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange fell 94 points, or 0.2 percent, to end at 55,675, today. The Nifty at the National Stock Exchange shed 15 points, or 0.1 percent, to 16,570. At global stock markets, Asian markets ended mixed. So, Japan's Nikkei-225 index shed 0.1 percent and Singapore's Straits Times index fell 0.2 percent. But China's Shanghai Composite index climbed 1.3 percent and Hong Kong's Hang Seng index jumped 2.7 percent.
Stock market in South Korea was closed for a holiday. In Europe, London's FTSE-100 had climbed 1.2 percent; France's CAC-40 had advanced 1.1 percent and Germany's DAX had added 1 percent, in intra-day trade. Global crude oil futures hit 120 dollars a barrel, in intra-day trade, today, after Saudi Arabia raised crude prices for July amid doubts that an increased OPEC monthly output target will help ease tight supply. So the Brent crude oil futures gained 16 cents, to 119.88 dollars a barrel. The US crude futures edged up 17 cents, to 119.04 dollars a barrel, after hitting a three-month high of 120.99 dollars a barrel.
