Odisha has registered a significant reduction in Infant Mortality Rate.
Odisha has registered a significant reduction in Infant Mortality Rate. Basing its claim on the Sample Registration System bulletin published by the Registrar General of India, the state government stated yesterday that Odisha has reported a drop of 39 points in terms of IMR between 2005 & 2020, which is the highest decline in the country. As of now the IMR in Odisha stands at 30 per each 1000 live birth. It's worth a mention here that the union & the state government have been taking different measures to improve the IMR and MMR in the state. One such example is the introduction of a scheme entitled SAMPURNA- in 2015-2016 which sought to identify pregnant women and children with high risk so as to make appropriate health intervention. Similarly under the Central Scheme titled LaQshya i.e Labour room Quality improvement Initiative, mothers and their new born babies are being provided at least 48 hours of qualitative health care in 74 Mother & Child healthcare centres across the state. The Union government has put in place a number of such schemes and programmes for the welfare of mothers and their babies. Another such significant step of the government of India is the launch of Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana under which more than 2.78 crore pregnant women and lactating mothers have been enrolled. Under the scheme, a whooping 2.47 crore pregnant women and lactating mothers have received financial support to the tune of more than ten thousand crore rupees till date. Whatever be the government, welfare-oriented governance always mandates the health and wellness of both the mothers and the babies. Girish Chandra Dash FOR Parikrama.
