Prime Minister Narendra Modi will review the progress of two major power generation projects of Jharkhand today through video conferencing. These projects include Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited , a joint venture of the State Government and National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), under construction at Patratu in Ramgarh district and NTPC's under-construction North Karanpura Thermal Power Station in Chatra district. The review meeting will be held this afternoon through video conferencing.
In view of the proposed meeting, the officials of the Energy Department have put all preparations in place. Chief Minister Hemant Soren had recently directed all the concerned departments and officials to work with better coordination in view of the power crisis in the state due to delay in both the power projects.
Union Energy Secretary, Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary of Energy Department and other senior officers will participate in the meeting.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a visit to Hyderabad tomorrow. The Prime Minister will be visiting the Indian School of Business (ISB) to take part in the 20th Annual Celebrations and attend the Post-Graduation Programme of 2022. He will address the students of both Hyderabad and Mohali campuses and award medals to some of the academic scholars of excellence on the occasion. He will unveil a commemorative plaque and release the ISB MyStamp and Special cover. Mr Modi will also plant a sapling on the campus.
Meanwhile, elaborate security arrangements are being made in view of the Prime Minister’s Visit.
Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate several completed projects and lay foundation stones for new projects at a function to be held in Chennai tomorrow evening. The cost involved in total eleven projects is 31,500 crore rupees.
The completed works that the Prime Minister will dedicate to the nation include five major infrastructure projects worth over 2,960 crore rupees. The 75-km long Madurai-Theni Railway Gauge Conversion Project has been built at a cost of over 500 crore rupees. The 30-km long third Railway line between Tambaram and Chengalpattu, two key Chennai suburbs, has been built at a cost of over 590 crore rupees.
The natural gas pipeline project in the 115-km long Ennore-Chengalpattu section and 271-km long Thiruvallur-Bengaluru section, will be commissioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He will also inaugurate 1,152 houses constructed as part of the Light House Project in Chennai, built under the urban component of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
Mr Modi will also lay the foundation stone for six projects worth 28,540 crore rupees. The main project includes the 262-Km long Bengaluru - Chennai Expressway. The 21-km long, four-lane, double decker, elevated road will connect Chennai Port and Maduravoyal in the city. The five Railway Stations at Chennai Egmore, Rameswaram, Madurai, Katpadi and Kanyakumari, will be redeveloped at a cost of 1,800 crore rupees.
The Union Government has decided to put a cap on sugar exports to ensure domestic availability. Briefing media in New Delhi today, Food Secretary Sudhanshu Pandey said, India's exports have reached a record high in this season and now domestic availability has to be ensured during October - November as consumption increases in the festive season. He said, the decision has been taken in view of the global situation which may trigger the demand for sugar. Mr. Pandey added, it should not be seen as a curb.
Earlier, the Centre decided to allow export of sugar upto 100 Lakh Metric Tonnes. As per the order issued by Directorate General of Foreign Trade, with effect from the 1st of June till the 31st of October this year the export of sugar will be allowed with specific permission.
The Centre has allowed import of 20 Lakh Metric Tonnes each of Crude Soybean Oil and Crude Sunflower Seed Oil per year for a period of two years at a nil rate of customs duty and Agricultural Infrastructure and Development Cess. This will provide significant relief to the consumers. The exemption from customs duty and Agricultural Infrastructure and Development Cess will be effective from today.
The exemption will help cool domestic prices and control inflation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in New Delhi last night after participating in the Quad Leaders' Summit as part of his two-day visit to Japan. Besides Mr Modi, the Quad Summit was attended by US President Joe Biden, and Prime Ministers of Japan and Australia. During the summit, the leaders reiterated their shared commitment to a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific and the importance of upholding the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity and peaceful resolution of disputes. They exchanged perspectives on developments in the Indo-Pacific and the conflict in Europe. He participated in the event to launch the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity and chaired a business roundtable in Tokyo. The Prime Minister also interacted with members of the Indian community.
Meanwhile, Quad leaders have unequivocally condemned terrorism and violent extremism in all its forms and manifestations. In a joint statement, Quad leaders said there could be no justification for acts of terror.
Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra said there was an excellent warmth between the leaders during the summit. He added that they also held productive and meaningful discussions that were marked by a cooperative and constructive agenda.
The third edition of Indian Navy and Bangladesh Navy Bilateral exercise Bongosagar commenced at Port Mongla, Bangladesh. The Harbour Phase of exercise is underway. It will be followed by a Sea Phase in the Northern Bay of Bengal starting tomorrow.
Exercise Bongosagar is aimed at developing a high degree of interoperability and joint operational skills through the conduct of a wide spectrum of maritime exercises and operations between the two navies.
Indian Naval Ships Kora, an indigenously built Guided Missile Corvette and Sumedha, an indigenously built Offshore Patrol Vessel are participating in the Exercise. Bangladesh Navy is being represented by BNS Abu Ubaidah and Ali Haider, both Guided Missile Frigates.
The harbour phase of the exercise includes professional and social interactions and friendly sporting fixtures, in addition to the tactical level planning discussions on the conduct of the exercises at sea. The sea phase of the exercise would facilitate ships from both the navies to participate in intensive surface warfare drills, weapon firing drills, seamanship evolutions and coordinated air operations in a tactical scenario.

In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, three Pakistani terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces that broke out at Najibhat crossing in Kreeri area of North Kashmir's Baramulla district, a short while ago.
One J&K Police personnel also laid down his life in the operation.
Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition have also been recovered from the possession of the slain terrorists. Further details are awaited.
In Bihar, eleven people have died due to consumption of spurious liquor in Aurangabad and Gaya district. Fifteen people, who are in serious condition, are under treatment in local Government Hospitals. In Aurangabad, eight people including a teacher died due to consumption of spurious liquor while three people died in Gaya. Family members of the deceased said, the victims had consumed spurious liquor together and fell sick after reaching home. Aurangabad District Magistrate Saurabh Jorwal told AIR News that patrolling has been intensified in areas and 74 people have been arrested in this regard.
Bihar is a state where production, importation and sale of alcoholic beverages is prohibited by law.
In Odisha, six tourists were killed and about 40 injured in a road accident that took place last night in the Kalinga Ghati. The injured have been admitted to the nearby hospitals in Berhampur and Bhanjanagar.
The accident took place around midnight when the tourist bus bound for Vizag from Daringbadi in Odisha was negotiating a turn in the Kalinga Ghati. The deceased include four women. As per reports, all the 70-odd tourists travelling in the ill-fated bus belong to West Bengal. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Pattnaik has expressed deep anguish over the loss of lives in the accident.

The Samajwadi Party has decided to support senior lawyer and former Congress leader Kapil Sibbal for Rajya Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh. The Punjab Government has made it compulsory for the candidates vying for Group 'C' and 'D' posts under the State Government to clear the Punjabi Eligibility Test by securing at least 50 per cent marks over and above the stipulated recruitment exam for the respective post.
A decision to this effect has been taken by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann while chairing a meeting with the officers at Chandigarh. Mr Mann said in order to promote Punjabi language, it would now be mandatory for all the candidates appearing for recruitment for group 'C' and 'D' posts to qualify the Punjabi Eligibility Test prior to appearing for the requisite recruitment exam for the respective posts.
