Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in New Delhi last night after participating in the Quad Leaders' Summit as part of his two-day tour in Japan. Besides Mr Modi, the Quad Summit was attended US President Joe Biden, and Prime Ministers of Japan and Australia. During the summit, the leaders reiterated their shared commitment to a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific and the importance of upholding the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity and peaceful resolution of disputes. They exchanged perspectives on developments in the Indo-Pacific and the conflict in Europe. On the sidelines of the Quad Summit, Prime Minister had bilateral meetings with US President Joe Biden and new Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. On the first day of his visit to Japan on Monday, the Prime Minister had a series of engagements. He participated in the event to launch the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity and chaired a business roundtable in Tokyo. He also interacted with members of the Indian community.

Meanwhile, Quad leaders have unequivocally condemned terrorism and violent extremism in all its forms and manifestations. In a joint statement, Quad leaders said that there could be no justification for acts of terror. They also reiterated their condemnation of terrorist attacks, including Pathankot and 26/11 Mumbai attacks perpetrated by Pakistan-based terror outfits. Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra said that the leaders discussed the challenges and opportunities in the Indo-Pacific regions. COVID-19 pandemic, post-COVID recovery, and building of preparedness in terms of health infrastructure were also discussed very extensively, he said.

केन्द्र ने प्रति वर्ष बीस लाख मीट्रिक टन कच्चा सोयाबीन तेल और सूरजमुखी तेल के शुल्क मुक्त आयात की अनुमति दी है। सीमा शुल्क तथा कृषि बुनियादी ढांचा और विकास उपकर की शून्य दर पर आयात की यह अनुमति दो वर्ष तक जारी रहेगी। आज से प्रभावी हो रही इस छूट से उपभोक्ताओं को महत्वपूर्ण राहत मिलेगी। वित्त मंत्रालय ने एक अधिसूचना में बताया कि शुल्क मुक्त आयात वित्तीय वर्ष 2022-23 और 2023-24 के लिए लागू होगा। इस रियायत से तेल की घरेलू कीमतें कम करने और मुद्रा स्फीति पर नियंत्रण में मदद मिलेगी।

Union Government has launched the Eighth Edition of Swachh Survekshan - SS-2023 under Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0.  Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs Manoj Joshi  launched it at virtual event in New Delhi yesterday. Designed with the theme of ‘Waste to Wealth’ as its driving philosophy, Swachh Survekshan-  2023 is curated towards achieving circularity in waste management. The survey would give priority to the principle of 3Rs - Reduce, Recycle and Reuse. Speaking at the launch event, Mr Manoj Joshi said that the Swachh Survekshan has developed into an inspiration tool, rather than being just an assessment tool. This largest survey undertaken anywhere has brought about substantive changes at the ground level, with cities performing well having sense of pride. The Ministry said, over the years, Swachh Survekshan has emerged as the largest Urban sanitation survey in the world. It was observed that whenever the Swachh Survey starts, there is enhanced level of activities undertaken by the cities and cities are visibly cleaner during the months the survey is conducted. Therefore, in SS-2023, the evaluation will be conducted in four phases, instead of three phases in earlier editions.

मोहाली की एक अदालत ने पंजाब के पूर्व स्वास्थ्य मंत्री डॉ. विजय सिंगला को 27 मई तक पुलिस हिरासत में भेज दिया है। पंजाब पुलिस की भ्रष्टाचार रोधी शाखा से गिरफ्तारी के बाद सिंगला को अदालत में पेश किया गया था। कल इससे पहले पंजाब के मुख्यमंत्री भगवंत मान ने सिंगला को भ्रष्टाचार के आरोपों के बाद मंत्रिमंडल से हटा दिया। उन्होंने पुलिस को सिंगला के खिलाफ मामला दर्ज करने को भी कहा। मुख्यमंत्री ने बताया कि स्वास्थ्य मंत्री को, निविदाओं के लिए एक प्रतिशत कमीशन  मांगने की जानकारी मिलने के बाद हटाने का फैसला लिया गया। सिंगला ने आरोपों को स्वीकार कर लिया है।

In Manipur, State-Level Shirui Lily Festival 2022 will begin today. This annual festival is organised by the Department of Tourism, Government of Manipur in an aim to create and raise awareness on Shirui Lily flower which is also the State Flower of Manipur. The four-day long festival will be inaugurated by the Governor of Manipur La. Ganesan and the Chief Minister N. Biren Singh today at Shirui Village Ground in Ukhrul district. Different events including traditional dances, songs and music, trekking, beauty contests, indigeneous games and sports will be organised at different sites in Ukhrul district. The festival is held around April and May as it is the blooming season of Shirui Lily. The flower is found in Ukhrul district of Manipur only and cannot be replanted anywhere in the world.

उच्‍चतम न्‍यायालय ने झारखंड उच्‍च न्‍यायालय को, झारखंड के मुख्‍यमंत्री हेमंत सोरेन के खिलाफ सीबीआई या प्रवर्तन निदेशालय द्वारा जांच की मांग सम्‍बंधी जनहित याचिकाओं को बरकरार रखने के बारे में पहले फैसला करने का निर्देश दिया है। यह मामला श्री हेमंत सोरेन पर खदानों को पट्टे पर देने, मनरेगा घोटाले और फर्जी कम्‍पनियों को धन अंतरण के आरोपों से सम्‍बंधित है।

World Health Organization Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has been reelected for the second term. In a tweet, the WHO said, the World Health Assembly Member states re-elected Dr Tedros to serve a second five-year term as Director-General of the WHO. His new mandate officially commences on 16th August, this year. His re-election was confirmed during the 75th World Health Assembly in Geneva. He was the sole candidate. Dr Tedros was first elected in 2017. After re-election, Dr Tedros said, he is humbled by the opportunity provided by Member States to serve a second term. He is committed to working with all countries, his colleagues around the world, and his valued partners, to ensure WHO delivers on its mission to promote health, keep the world safe and serve the vulnerable, he added.

अमरीका के उवाल्‍डे में रॉब प्राथमिक स्‍कूल में एक बंदूकधारी ने 14 बच्‍चों और एक शिक्षक को गोली मार दी। टैक्‍सस के गनर्वर ग्रेग एबॉट ने बताया कि 18 वर्षीय बंदूकधारी को भी मार दिया गया है। मारे गए विद्यार्थी दूसरी, तीसरी और चौथी कक्षा के थे और उनकी आयु सात से दस वर्ष के बीच थी। लगभग एक दशक पहले कनेक्‍टीकट के न्‍यूटाउन में सैंडी हुक एलिमेंटरी में हुए हमले के बाद अमरीका के किसी स्‍कूल में गोलीबारी की यह सबसे दर्दनाक घटना है। न्‍यूयॉर्क के बफेलो में एक सुपर मार्किट में बख्‍तरबंद से लैस बंदूकधारी द्वारा खरीदारी करने गये दस अश्‍वेतों  और कर्मचारियों की हत्‍या के मात्र दस दिन बाद यह घटना हुई है।  घटना के कारणों की तत्‍काल जानकारी नहीं मिली है लेकिन गवर्नर ने हमलावर की पहचान सल्‍वाडोर रामोस के रूप में की है।

In IPL cricket, Gujarat Titans stormed into the final, after beating Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets in Qualifier 1 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata last night. Put into bat first, Rajasthan posted 188 runs for the loss of six wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. In reply, Gujarat overhauled the target, losing three wickets in 19.3 overs. Rajasthan Royals will now face the winner of the Eliminator match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Lucknow will take on Bangalore today at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata at 7:30 pm.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin released water from the Stanley Reservoir at Mettur in Chennai yesterday. It is the first time in the history of the state’s biggest dam since Independence that it was opened in a summer month of May. Usually its shutters used to be opened on June 12th. The opening of the dam at Mettur assumes significance as it serves all the ten Delta districts which are considered the granary of the state. The copious inflow into the reservoir due to the pre-monsoon rains in the catchment areas of River Cauvery helped the opening of it before time. The farmers in the Delta region say it has brightened the prospects of realising all the three crop seasons this time.

At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, the Government of Karnataka and leading renewable energy company ReNew Power signed a Memorandum of Understanding yesterday. The MoU was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, according to which ReNew Power has proposed to invest 50,000 crore rupees in the state over the next seven years. The company has plans to set up production units in Renewable Energy, battery storage and green hydrogen with potential to create employment opportunities for 30,000 people in the state. Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister met Chairman and CEO of Bharti Enterprises Sunil Bharti Mittal who evinced keen interest to set up a Mega Data Centre in Karnataka. The Chairman of Adani Group Gautam Adani had called on Chief Minister Bommai in Davos yesterday and discussed investment opportunities in Karnataka.

The Telangana State Road Transportation Corporation (TSRTC) has announced that Home Delivery and Pick up facility will be launched shortly to bridge the last mile delivery of Courier and Parcel Services. An official release stated that the proposal will enable the customers to seamlessly book and take delivery of courier without leaving their homes. The Corporation Chairman B Govardhan and Vice Chairman and Managing Director, VC Sajjanar, informed that TSRTC buses ply to nooks and corners of the Greater Hyderabad and the life line that connects all the 33 districts. They called upon delivery partners, channel service agents to join hands with TSRTC to make Home Delivery and pick up a robust engagement. In another measure, the public transport corporation has decided to pick passengers from the railway station and drop them at surrounding bus stops, free of cost. Battery vehicles are proposed to be used for pick and drop of the passengers. The services are expected to kick-start within the next ten days.

दिल्‍ली सरकार ने राजधानी की सड़कों पर 125 इलेक्ट्रिक बसें उतारी हैं। श्रीदिल्‍ली के मुख्‍यमंत्री अरविंद केजरीवाल ने कहा कि 26 मई तक सभी के लिए इलेक्ट्रिक बसों में सफर मुफ्त होगी और एक महीने बाद 150 इलेक्ट्रिक बसें और सड़कों पर उतारी जाएंगी। उन्‍होंने कहा कि एक साल में दो हजार इलेक्ट्रिक बसें सड़कों पर होंगी।

महाराष्ट्र आतंकवाद निरोधी दस्ते (एटीएस) ने लश्कर-ए-तैयबा (एलईटी) नेटवर्क के लिए आतंकवादियों की भर्ती में कथित भूमिका के लिए पुणे से एक व्यक्ति को गिरफ्तार किया है। वह सोशल मीडिया के जरिए लश्कर के आतंकी नेटवर्क से जुड़ा था। एटीएस के एक अधिकारी ने बताया कि जुनैद नाम के आरोपी को एटीएस ने आतंकी गतिविधियों के वित्तपोषण के सिलसिले में गिरफ्तार किया है. अधिकारी ने बताया कि गिरफ्तारी के बाद उसे मुंबई की विशेष अदालत में पेश किया गया. अदालत ने उसे अगले महीने की 3 तारीख तक महाराष्ट्र एटीएस की हिरासत में भेज दिया।

पश्चिम बंगाल के सूक्ष्म, लघु और मध्यम उद्यम विभाग ने पश्चिम मिदनापुर के सबांग में चटाई बनाने का एक केन्‍द्र स्थापित करने के लिए करीब 5 करोड़ रूपए आवंटित किए हैं। 2 एकड़ भूमि पर ये मैट हब स्थापित किया जाएगा। सबांग से विधायक और जल संसाधन जांच एवं विकास मंत्री मानस भूनिया ने कहा कि स्थानीय क्षेत्र के करीब 70 फीसदी लोग चटाई उद्योग से जुड़े हैं। प्रस्तावित हब से लाखों चटाई कारीगरों को मदद मिलेगी।

कोलकाता में भी कई स्‍थानों पर बादल छाए रहेंगे और एक या दो बार  गरज के साथ बौछारें पड़ सकती हैं। अधिकतम तापमान 36 डिग्री सेल्सियस और न्यूनतम तापमान 26 डिग्री सेल्सियस रहने की संभावना है।
