Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the Government is committed to provide free of cost Covid-19 vaccine to everyone. He said, vaccination coverage will be expanded from the upcoming 21st of June. 

Talking about the changing nature of the corona virus and the country's resilience to deal with this infectious disease, Mr. Modi said, the Covid-19 pandemic has helped in developing a robust medical infrastructure in the country. He said, this pandemic has helped the government, science, society, institutions and individuals to expand their capabilities. He stressed on creating medical infrastructure in the country to deal with the growing challenge of the mutant corona virus.

He said, new AIIMS, medical colleges and Nursing Colleges have been set up in the last few years. He said, millions of youths are required to expand the medical infrastructure in the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched a Customized Crash Course programme for Covid-19 Frontline workers. With the launch the  programme has commenced in 111 training centres spread over 26 states.

Highlighting the importance of this skill development programme, Mr. Modi said, unprecedented efforts are being made to create a large pool of trained healthcare workers in the country.

The Prime Minister said, the Customized Crash Course programme for Covid-19 Frontline workers will provide skill training to over one lakh youth in the country and the training will open new job opportunities for youths.

Talking about the importance of skill, re-skill and up-skill of the healthcare workers, the Prime Minister said, expanding skills is the need of the hour. He said, a dynamic system is required with a speedy change in technologies. 

Appreciating the role of ASHA, ANM and healthcare workers posted in rural dispensaries, Mr. Modi said, they have  made a significant contribution from prevention of infection to the administration of vaccines.


India's active COVID caseload has declined to 7 lakh 98 thousand 656. The active caseload is less than 8 lakh after 73 days. The Health Ministry said India reported 62 thousand 480 new cases in the last 24 hours.

A total of 88 thousand and 977 patients recovered during the last 24 hours. This has taken the total recoveries across the country to over 2 crore 85 lakh 80 thousand so far. 

The Recovery Rate has increased to 96.03 percent and daily recoveries continue to outnumber the Daily New Cases for the 36th consecutive day.

The weekly Positivity Rate remains below 5 percent, and is currently at 3.8 percent. Daily positivity rate is at 3.24 percent, which is less than 5 percent for 11 consecutive days.

A total of 1 thousand and 587 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours taking the death toll to over 3 lakh 83 thousand. 

Testing capacity has been substantially ramped up and 38.71 crore tests have been conducted in total. Over 26.89 crore Vaccine Doses have been administered so far under the Nationwide Vaccination Drive.


The Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry has said that more than two crore 58 lakh Covid vaccine doses are still available with the States and Union Territories to be administered to beneficiaries.

The Ministry said, the Central Government has provided over 27 crore 90 lakh Covid vaccine doses to States and Union Territories so far. The Ministry has assured that over 19 lakh 95 thousand vaccine doses will be provided to States and Union Territories within the next three days.


Madhya Pradesh reported 145 new cases of Covid 19 while the positivity rate has come down to 0.1 per cent. 

The number of active cases has come down to 2984 while 404 patients have recovered from infection. The weekly positivity rate has come down to less than one percent in 51 districts of the state. Only Bhopal district has a weekly positivity rate of 1.1 percent. No new cases have been reported in 22 districts .  Bhind and Burhanpur districts of the state have become  Corona free. In Bihar, over one crore 23 lakh people have been vaccinated for Covid in the state so far. Out of these, 32 lakh 67 thousand  people are from the age group of 18 to 44 years.

Meanwhile, the state's recovery rate has risen to over 98 per cent, while the test positivity rate has declined to below one per cent. The number of active cases is also decreasing and presently stands at three thousand 803. Over seven lakh people have recovered from the infection so far. In all, 385  fresh cases were reported in the state during the last 24 hours and 568 people recovered yesterday.


In Jharkhand, samples of Delta Plus variant of Corona virus have been found in several patients which has increased the possibility of third-wave of COVID-19 pandemic in the state very soon. The samples collected during the COVID-19 testing has been sent for genome sequencing at ISL, Bhubaneshwar.

Health Secretary Arun Kumar Singh has requested the Indian Council of Medical Research to provide Genome Sequencing Machine for Jharkhand, so that determination of mutant strains of COVID-19 virus can be detected at the earliest. Presently, it takes 30 days time for the reports to come.

Dr Manoj Kumar, Head of Microbiology Department in Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences told AIR News that they were yet to determine the transmission rate of the Delta Plus variant of Corona virus, which will be established once the reports are received from ISL, Bhubaneshwar. The Delta Plus variant of Corona Virus can be more dangerous, added Dr Kumar.


In the Union Territory of Puducherry, Covid 19 positive cases have shown a declining trend for the last few days with 353 new cases reported today.

So far 12 lakhs 8 thousand 489 tests conducted, of which 10 lakhs 38 thousand 858 results turned negative. With the discharge of 557 persons, the active cases stood at 4 thousand 125. Of these 635 in hospitals and 3490 are in home isolation. 4 persons died. The recovery rate touched to 94.89 % , and the case fatality rate is 1.50 percent. The aggregate of vaccinated persons , including 2nd dose, was 3,65,452. ( i.e) 2,52,007 general public, 36,771 Health Care Workers and 22, 730 Front line staffs took their shots. Mean while the 4 day special vaccination festival for the age group of 18 - 44 kicked off on 16 th gets overwhelming response. On the first day 13,525 persons and yesterday 15,123 persons administered vaccine. Today the Session is going on. It will continue till tomorrow. 100 session sites are arranged across the regions for the smooth conduct of the vaccination festival. Chandra Mohan, AIR NEWS, Puducherry.


Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan has said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Tuberculosis-Free India will be achieved by 2025. He was chairing a High-Level Meet yesterday with Corporates to discuss Voluntary Crowd-Funding for treatment of patients suffering from Rare Diseases. Dr Harsh Vardhan said, TB will be eliminated in the same expeditious manner as Polio.


Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari yesterday said, the Government’s target is to reduce road accident deaths by 50 percent by 2024.

He was addressing the virtual session on ‘Role of Corporates in Arresting Road Fatalities’ organised by FICCI. Mr Gadkari congratulated FICCI on the announcement of Road Safety consortium ‘Safar’ and release of a white paper on road safety for the corporate world. The Minister emphasised the need for identification of ‘black spot’ in every state, district and city. He said the World Bank and ADB have already sanctioned a scheme by which the Government is allocating 14,000 crore rupees for states, NHAI and other stakeholders to remove black spots.


The Election Commission of India has released an atlas on General Elections 2019. Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra along with Election Commissioners Rajiv Kumar and Anup Chandra Pandey released the Atlas.

The Atlas consists of all the data and statistical figures about the 2019 General Election. It has 42 thematic maps and 90 tables depicting various facets of the elections. The Atlas provides interesting facts, anecdotes and legal provisions related to the elections. The Atlas serves as an informative and illustrative document that brings to light the nuances of the Indian electoral process and empowers readers to analyse trends and changes.

17th General Elections conducted in 2019 were the largest democratic exercise in history. Election Commission of India set up over ten lakh polling stations in General Elections 2019.  It witnessed the participation of over 61 crore voters. The Atlas brings out salient features such as data of the 23 States and Union Territories where women voting percentage was more than the male voting percentage. The 2019 General Elections witnessed the lowest gender gap in the history of Indian elections. The Home Ministry has operationalised the national Helpline 155260 and Reporting Platform for preventing financial loss due to cyber fraud. The National Helpline and Reporting Platform provides a mechanism for persons cheated in cyber frauds to report such cases to prevent loss of their hard earned money.

The Helpline was soft launched on the first of April this year. The Helpline and its Reporting Platform has been made operational by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, I4C under the Ministry of Home Affairs, with active support and cooperation from the Reserve Bank of India, all major banks, Payment Banks, Wallets and Online Merchants.

Since its soft launch, in a short span of two months, Helpline 155260 has been able to save more than 1.85 crore rupees of defrauded money from reaching the hands of fraudsters, with Delhi and Rajasthan saving 58 lakh rupees and 53 lakh rupees.


Defence minister Rajnath Singh has visited the 300 bed COVID Care Hospital at Sarusajai in Guwahati today. The hospital has been set up by the DRDO . Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma accompanied Mr. Singh during his visit. The Defence minister has appreciated the work of the DRDO.


The Indian Coast Guard is on as an oil spill has been reported from a Haldia-bound Portuguese flag container ship. It received information from Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre, Colombo in the late hours of Wednesday about a mid-sea oil spill about 450 kms South East of Chennai. On further investigation, it was found that a Portuguese flag Container ship MV Devon, on passage from Colombo to Haldia, West Bengal, developed an underwater crack in the fuel tank containing about 120 Kilolitres of Very Low Sulphur Fuel Oil.

The crack resulted in spillage of about 10 Kilolitres of oil into the sea before preventive action was taken and remaining oil in the tank was transferred to another tank by the ship’s crew. The vessel is carrying 10,795 tonnes of general cargo in 382 containers and manned by 17 crew. The ship is continuing its voyage to Haldia and is likely to reach today.

The ICG is in continuous contact with MV Devon and the master has reported that the vessel is stable. 


Iranians are voting to elect a new president, with four candidates in the fray.Opinion polls suggest Ebrahim Raisi, who heads the judiciary, is the clear favourite. Former central bank governor Abdolnasser Hemmati is his main rival.
