As the nation fights the COVID-19 pandemic,we begin with a message of precaution to stay safe and protected by followingthese three simple steps --

  • Maintain Do Gaz Ki Doori for socialdistancing.

  • Focus on hand and face hygiene. 


Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch world’s largest COVID-19vaccination program, on Saturday Morning through video conferencing. This panIndia rollout of COVID-19 vaccination drive will cover the entire length andbreadth of the country. 


A total of three thousand six session sites across all States and UnionTerritoriess will be virtually connected during the launch. Around 100beneficiaries will be vaccinated at each session site on the inaugural day.


This vaccination programme is based on the principles of priority groupsto be vaccinated and Health Care workers, both in government and privatesectors including ICDS workers, will receive the vaccine during this phase.


The vaccination programme will use Co-WIN, an online digital platformdeveloped by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, which will facilitate realtime information of vaccine stocks, storage temperature and individualizedtracking of beneficiaries for COVID-19 vaccine.This digital platform willassist programme managers across all levels while conducting vaccinationsessions.


A dedicated 24x7 call centre, 1075 has also been established foraddressing the queries related to COVID-19 pandemic, vaccine rollout and theCo-WIN software.


Adequate doses of both COVISHIELD and COVAXIN have already beendelivered across the country to all States and UTs with the active support ofthe Ministry of Civil Aviation. These have been further delivered by the Stateand UT governments to the districts. All preparations are in place to initiate theprogramme on the principles of Jan Bhagidari.


The Government has said that two doses ofVaccine, 28 days apart, need to be taken by an individual to complete theVaccination schedule. The Health Ministry has come out with a series offrequently asked questions about COVID-19 vaccine on various aspects. Talkingto AIR, the Professor of GB Pant hospital Doctor Sanjay Panday said thatprotective levels of antibodies are generally developed two weeks afterreceiving the 2nd dose of Covid 19 Vaccine.


The Ministry has said that Vaccination forCOVID-19 is voluntary. However, it has advised to receive the complete scheduleof COVID-19 vaccine for protecting one-self against this disease. This willalso limit the spread of this disease to the close contacts including familymembers, friends, relatives and co-workers. Infected individuals should defervaccination for 14 days after symptoms resolution as they may increase the riskof spreading the virus to others at the vaccination site. Dr. Panday said thatadequate precautionary measures have been taken to for the storage of jabs forsuccessful inoculation.

The Ministry said, the vaccine introduced inIndia will be as effective as any vaccine developed by other countries asvarious phases of vaccine trials are undertaken to ensure its safety andefficacy. Elligible beneficiaries will be informed through their registeredmobile numbers regarding the Health Facility for vaccination and its scheduledtime.


India continues to leap ahead in its fightagainst COVID-19 with over one crore one lakh 46 thousand cumulative recoveriesso far. With this, the national recovery rate has further improved to stand at96.52 per cent. The rate of new daily infection also continues to remain evenbelow 20 thousand with only 16 thousand 946 cases being reported in the past 24hours. During the same interval, over 17 thousand 500 people have successfullyrecovered from the viral contagion. The gap between the recovered patients andactive cases in the country has further widened and the number of recoveredpatients stands at nearly 48 times the number of current active cases.


The active caseload in the country comprisesnearly two lakh 13 thousand people and stands at 2.03 per cent. Out of thesenearly 60 per cent are under home isolation and have mild to very mildsymptoms.


Over seven lakh 43 thousand samples weretested for COVID in the country in last the 24 hours. With this, the cumulativetesting figure has reached at around 18 crore 42 lakh.


The Health Ministry said this has also ledto a commensurate dip in the fatality rate which stands at 1.44 per cent. Thenumber of countrywide fatalities recorded in 24 hours has slipped below the 200mark with 198 deaths being reported since yesterday.


A total of 340 new confirmed cases of Corona virus infection werereported in Delhi during the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases toover six lakh 31 thousand. Delhi Government said that over six lakh 17 thousandpeople affected with Corona virus have been cured so far. In the last 24 hours,390 people recovered and four deaths were reported in the city taking the tollto ten thousand 722. Presently, the total number of active cases in thenational capital is two thousand 937.


In Uttar Pradesh, the covid vaccines todayreached in each and every district of the state. They are being kept understrict security arrangements. A Report from our Lucknow Correspondent:


"Additional chief secretary health Amit Mohan Prasad said that almost11 lakh vaccines have been received by the State Government till date and thevaccination will start on 16th January according to the guidelines of CentralGovernment. In first face vaccination drive will be launched at 311 centres instate. He said that the session for vaccination will run from 9 AM in morningto 5 PM in evening. Strict security arrangements are in place for the safety ofvaccines in all districts with CCTV surveillance. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has written an article in Manorama Yearbookon the year just gone by and the quest towards an Aatmanirbhar Bharat. In atweet, Mr Modi said, this global pandemic has brought to the fore India’snational character for the entire world to behold, as a resilient and unitednation. In the article, Mr Modi has highlighted the silver linings amid thepandemic and explains how 2020 was a year of internal discovery for thecountry.


Thirteen scientists from a 15-memberinternational team led by World Health Organization (WHO) arrived in Wuhan,China today to examine the origins of the novel coronavirus that sparkedCOVID19 Pandemic.


Two scientists are still in Singaporecompleting tests for COVID-19, after both tested positive for COVID-19antibodies.

"WHO said that the experts will begin their work immediately duringthe 2 weeks quarantine protocol for international travelers. As per reports,the team will spend two weeks in quarantine on arrival and two more weeksinterviewing people from research institutes, hospitals and the seafood marketin Wuhan where the new virus is believed to have emerged. The team would mainlystay in Wuhan. Also, there is no clarity yet whether they will be allowed anyextension beyond this period, in case any such requirement arises during thecourse of investigation. Chinese foreign ministry said, relevant epidemicprevention control requirements will be strictly enforced, when asked about twoscientists’ case. Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan today said that India utilized the timeduring lockdown to upgrade the health infrastructure, build capacity ofhealthcare workers and ensure availability of requisite logistics in thecountry.


Addressing a webinar on Aatmanirbhar Bharat through video conference, hesaid, today India is self-sufficient in the indigenous manufacturing of PPEkits, masks and also in a position to export the same. Dr Harsh Vardhansaid,  Atmanirbhar Bharat has become oneof the focal areas of the government, around which all economic policies arebeing drawn up.


He said, Narendra Modi government is focused on bridging the gap betweenthe rich and the poor and on providing equal opportunity to all citizens. TheMinister said, Self-reliant India does not mean boycotting foreign goods butbelieving in the concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam. He said, only a self-reliantnation can make its nation paramount.


Science and Technology Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan today inaugurated anew institute of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research - CSIR-NationalInstitute of Science Communication and Policy Research in New Delhi. The newinstitute has been established consequent to the merger of two prestigiousinstitutes of CSIR namely, CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication andInformation Resources and CSIR-National Institute of Science, Technology andDevelopment Studies.


Speaking on the occasion, Dr Harsh Vardhan highlighted that the purposeof this merger is to combine the strength of the two institutes in asynergistic way with a vision to become a globally respected Think Tank andResource Centre for understanding Science, Technology and Innovation PolicyResearch. He emphasized that this will serve the society with its core areas ofscience communication and policy research which has proved to be so importantduring the Covid19 pandemic.


The two Covid-19 vaccines approved by the National Regulator are safe.49 eminent scientists and doctors have collectively assured this in a statementissued today. They urged the countrymen to reject the manipulations of vestedinterests aimed at politicisation and defamation of the scientists, doctors andscientific community for their narrow vested interests. 


Government has said that additional cases of avian influenza among crowshave been confirmed in Dangs district of Gujarat today. Animal Husbandry andDairying Ministry said, after successfully finishing the culling operations,Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh have completed sanitization activities. InHaryana, samples from four poultry farms have been confirmed to be positive foravian influenza (H5N8).


The central teams formed for monitoring the situation in the affectedareas of the country are visiting the affected sites and conductingepistemological studies. The Department of Animal husbandry and Dairyingrequested Ministry of Civil Aviation to allow uninterrupted transportation ofsamples for expeditious testing of Avian Influenza in designated laboratories.The Ministry said, in the light of the findings that many states were banningsupply of poultry and poultry products from other states, it was suggested toreview such policy as this will add to the negative impact on the poultryindustry. It said, consumption of well-cooked chicken and eggs does not poseany risk to humans. The Ministry said, there is no scientific report availablethat infection of Avian Influenza viruses spread through processed products.


In view of the reports from designated laboratory that samples ofcommercial poultry from Ghazipur Mandi, Delhi were negative for AvianInfluenza, Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Giriraj Singhemphasized on removing the ban on sale of poultry and poultry products in avirtual meeting today along with the Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia andMayors of MCD Delhi. The Delhi Government has revoked the with immediateeffect. Following advisories from Centre, states are generating awareness amongthe general public about Avian Influenza and how to deal with the situation.


The Budget Session of the Parliament will begin on the 29th of thismonth. Thesession will commence with President Ram Nath Kovind's address to the jointsitting of both the Houses. The Union Budgetwill be presented on 1st February.    


In order to enable the Standing Committees to consider the Demands for Grantsof Ministries or Departments and prepare their Reports, the Parliament willadjourn on 15th February.


The second part of the Budget Session will begin on 8th March. Subjectto exigencies of Government Business, the Session is likely to conclude on 8thApril.


On the 5th of this month, Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs,CCPA had recommended that the Budget session of Parliament to commence from29th January and conclude on 8th April.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with startups and address‘Prarambh: Startup India International Summit’ on Saturday evening throughvideo conferencing.


The two day Summit is being organized by the Department for Promotion ofIndustry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The Summit willbegin tomorrow. It is being organised as a follow up of the announcement madeby the Prime Minister at the fourth Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-SectoralTechnical and Economic Cooperation, BIMSTEC Summit held in Kathmandu in August2018 wherein India committed to host the BIMSTEC Startup Conclave.


Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Kendras have registered a recordsale of 484 crore rupees in the current financial year. The sales were recordedat the 7 thousand 64 Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Kendras across alldistricts of the country selling quality generic medicines. Chemicals andFertilisers Minister Sadananda Gowda said that this is 60 per cent higher thanthe corresponding figures of the previous financial year and it has led tosavings of approximately three thousand crore rupees to the citizens of thiscountry.


The Third Phase of the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana will belaunched tomorrow in 600 districts across the country. Spearheaded by theMinistry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, this phase will focus onnew-age and COVID-related skills.


Skill India Mission-PMKVY 3.0 envisages training of eight lakhcandidates over a scheme period of 2020-2021 with an outlay of 948.90 crorerupees. The 729 Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendras, empaneled non-PMKK trainingcentres and more than 200 ITIs under Skill India will roll out PMKVY trainingto build a robust pool of skilled professionals. On the basis of the learninggained from PMKVY 1.0 and 2.0, the Ministry has improved the newer version ofthe scheme to match the current policy doctrine and energize the skillingecosystem affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic.     


Chairman of Indian Space ResearchOrganisation Dr. K. Sivan has said that the hallmark of the Indian spaceprogramme spearheaded by ISRO is its commitment to social welfare. Anotherunique feature of India's space programme is its ability to deliver with ashoe-string budget. When India became the first country to successfully reachthe Red Planet on its first attempt, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had notedthat even the Hollywood thriller "Gravity" had a larger budget at 100million dollars.

India’s first indigenous 9mm Machine Pistol has been jointly developedby Defence Research and Development Organisation, DRDO and Indian Army. Theweapon has been developed in a record time of four months. In a statement, DRDOsaid, the weapon has huge potential in Armed forces as personal weapon forheavy weapon detachments, commanders, tank and aircraft crews, Closed QuarterBattle, counter insurgency and counter terrorism operations. Government today refuted the reports in a section of media that Railwayshas been charging extra fares from passengers. Railway Ministry said, thereport is misleading and baseless.


It said, Festival and Holiday special trains were started as per thelong standing practice to clear the rush. This year there has been pent updemand on many sectors on which the festival trains were running. Thesefestival trains have been continued to clear the rush.


Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Laltoday launched aviation services between Chandigarh and Hisar at ChandigarhInternational Airport. On this occasion, the Chief Minister said that a newchapter has begun in the direction of aviation services in Haryana. Thedistance from Chandigarh to Hisar will be covered by this aircraft in 45minutes. This service has been started under the 'Udaan' scheme of theGovernment of India. He said that there will be a daily flight between Hisarand Chandigarh at its scheduled time.  CMsaid that air service  will start fromHisar to Dehradun on January 18 and from Hisar to Dharamshala on January 23.


The 51stInternational Film Festival of India will pay rich tributes to the legendaryfilmmaker Satyajit Ray. This was announced during the Golden Jubilee edition ofIFFI in 2019, by Secretary of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting AmitKhare, as part of the Centenary celebrations of Satyajit Ray. IFFI willshowcase Ray's selected films, Charulata, Ghare Baire, Pather Panchali,Shatranj Ke Khilari and Sonar Kella as part of this tribute. Here is a songfrom the movice Shatranj Ke Khilari.


Ray's first film, Pather Panchali (1955) woneleven international prizes, including the inaugural Best Human Document awardat the 1956 Cannes Film Festival. This film, along with Aparajito and ApurSansar (The World of Apu), formed The Apu Trilogy.


Twenty-four days before his death, Ray waspresented with an Honorary Academy Award by Audrey Hepburn via video-link. Inhis acceptance speech, he called it the best achievement of his movie-makingcareer.


Harvest Festival Makar Sankranti is being celebrated today. The festival is seen asa celebration of the end of the winter solstice month and also marks the end ofthe winter harvest. The festival is known as Pongal in Tamil Nadu, Uttarayan inGujarat, Bihu in Assam and Poush Sankranti in West Bengal.


President RamNath Kovind, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modihave extended their greetings and wishes to the citizens on the occasion.

Mumbai will have partlycloudy sky. The minimum temperature will be around 20 degree Celsius whilemamimum is expected around 33 degrees.


Chennai will have partlycloudy sky. The temperature will vary between 24 and 30 degree Celsius.


In Kolkata, there will be fog inthe morning and clear sky later. The city will observe minimum temperature ofaround 13 degree Celsius and a maximum of 25 degrees.


Srinagar will have partlyclear sky. Temperature will hover between minus four degree celsius and sixdegrees.


Jammu will have fogin the morning and mainly clear sky later. The minimum temperature will bearound seven degree Celsius while maximum will be 15 degrees.


Leh will have clearsky. The minimum temperature will be around minus 14 degree Celsius while themaximum will be around zero degree.


Gilgit will have mainlyclear sky. The temperature will hover between minus four degree to 11degree celsius.


In Muzaffarabad, skywill be mainly clear becoming partly cloudy towards afternoon or evening. Thetemperature will hover between four to 19 degree Celsius.


Dehradun will observeminimum temperature of around six degree Celsius and a maximum of 20 degrees.The city will witness mist.


Chandigarh will have fog inthe morning and mainly clear sky later. The temperature is likely to hover betweensix to 15 degree Celsius.


In Hyderabad, the minimumtemperature will be around 17 degree Celsius while the maximum 31 degree. Thecity will witness fog or mist in the morning and partly cloudy sky later.

Ahmedabad will have mainlyclear sky. The minimum temperature will be around 14 degree Celsius whilemaximum will be around 28 degree.

In Patna, it  will be a foggy morning and clear sky later.The minimum temperature will move between eight degree celsius to 20 degrees.

And, Guwahati willhave fog in the morning. The minimum temperature will bearound 13 degree Celsius while maximum will be 26 degrees.      


Foreign Affairs Minister of Nepal Pradeep Kumar Gyawali arrived in NewDelhi today on a three day official visit to India. Mr Gyawali is scheduled tomeet External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar tomorrow morning. MEASpokesperson Anurag Srivastava disclosed that both leaders will  co-chair the 6th India-Nepal Joint CommissionMeeting in New Delhi.


Government today said that due to the global Covid 19 situation, it hasbeen decided that this year there will not be a foreign Head of State or Headof Govt as the chief guest at the republic day ceremony. MEA SpokespersonAnurag Srivastava informed this in New Delhi today.

If India beatsAustralia on their soil and clinch the series, it will be a historic feat.India are the only team that stands on the cusp of registering back-to-backTest series wins in Australia. In Badminton, ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal today crashed out of theongoing Thailand Open after a hard-fought second round defeat against BusananOngbamrungphan of Thailand.


Saina lost 23-21, 14-21, 16-21 in a match that lasted for 68 minutes tobow out of the Super 1000 tournament.


The Phase-9 of Vande Bharat Mission is operational from the 1st of thismonth and till date an estimated one lakh 12 thousand people have beenrepatriated under this phase from 24 countries through 591 international flights.


Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Anurag Srivastava today said,Vande Bharat Mission has brought back more than 47 lakh people till yesterday.Regarding commemoration of 50 years of Indo-Bangla diplomatic tie theSpokesperson said that Bangladesh contingents will take part in fourth comingRepublic Day parade.
