West Bengal: First phase of assembly elections to be held on March 27

In West Bengal, the first phase of assembly elections will be held on 27th of March. 30 constituencies over five districts will go for polls on that day. Filing of nominations for this phase will start on Tuesday, 2nd of March. Political leaders are participating in rallies and road shows as a part of the campaign.

Left and Congress leaders are holding a joint rally for the first time in the Brigade Parade ground in Kolkata. AIR Correspondent reports that on the first Sunday after the announcement of polls for the state assembly election, the campaigning of various political parties is gaining momentum.

The alliance of Congress, left parties and newly formed Indian Secular Front has launched their campaign from the rally held at the iconic brigade parade ground in Kolkata. CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury, Leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha and PCC president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and ISF founder Abbas Siddique are the key speakers at the rally.

Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Bhupesh Baghel has joined the rally of the alliance while Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chauhan is campaigning for BJP in the state today. He is participating in three road shows as a part of the party’s Pariborton Yatra at Jagatballavpur, Sankrail and Howrah South.

BJP has planned to hold a rally at the same Brigade parade ground around next weekend. Leaders of all major political parties are also addressing public meetings in districts today.
