Uttar Pradesh: Devotees take dip in holy rivers on ‘Makar Sankranti’

In Uttar Pradesh, despite of biting cold, thousands of devotees have started taking dip in holy rivers from the early morning on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that the famous Magh Mela of Prayagraj also started from today.
Devotees along with saints have flocked to the Ghats of holy rivers across the state since early morning and taking bath on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. This is also the First important bathing festival of about one and a half month long Magh Mela, being held on the banks of Sangam, the confluence of rivers Ganga, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati in Prayagraj. Magh mela is the first big congregation being organised after the start of Covid pandemic.
First time Administration has prepared a list of all devotees who are coming to magh mela and no one is allowed without negative covid test report. All those who visit the mela premises will also be screened. Magh Mela Authority is making all efforts to inform devotees to not to feed the birds who arrive at Sangam from other countries amid the scare of bird flu. Several dedicated religious programmes are being organized in magh mela area.
Many ashram pandals will be also organizing a traditional community lunch of rice feast -Khichri. Chief Minister Yogi Aditynath will do a special pooja and offer Khichri Prasad at Gorakhnath Math at Gorakhpur, after which the famous Khichri mela will start here. He will also release a stamp on Gorakhpur city.
