The key domestic stocks plunged more than two per cent in the holiday-shortened week that ended yesterday. The BSE Sensex finished below the 59,500 mark while the NSE Nifty settled near 17,600 level.
The Sensex and the Nifty, both witnessed broad-based selling amid recessionary fears in the west and cautious approach ahead of the Union Budget on Wednesday. Investor sentiment was also impacted amid fall in Adani Group stocks after a report about the health of the company by a US-based investment research firm.
During the week, the Sensex lost 1,291 points or 2.18 per cent to settle at 59,331. The Nifty 50 index also dropped 423 points or 2.4 per cent to settle at 17,604.
In the broader market BSE, during the week, the Mid-Cap index plunged 2.74 per cent and the Small-Cap index tumbled 3.64 per cent, underperforming the Sensex.
