Key domestic benchmark indices closed with losses of more than half a per cent. The Sensex declined 398 points, or 0.69 per cent, to end around 57,527. The Nifty fell 132 points, or 0.77 per cent, to settle at the 16,945 mark.
In the broader market at the BSE, the Mid-Cap index fell 1.25 per cent and the Small Cap index was down 1.37 per cent.
In the Sensex Index, which is a pack of 30 companies, shares of six companies gained while 24 fell. Kotak Bank gained 0.7 per cent, Infosys rose 0.4 per cent and Power Grid added 0.2 per cent.
On the other hand, Bajaj Finserve declined 3.8 per cent, Bajaj Finance slipped 3.2 per cent and Tata Steel fell 2.6 per cent.
In sectoral indices at BSE, all 20 sectors logged losses. The reality sector slipped 2.3 per cent and Metal fell 2.2 per cent. The energy and Services both sectors declined one and half a per cent.
The overall market breadth was negative as shares of 967 companies rose while 2,541 companies fell. A total of 122 shares remain unchanged.
