In Maharashtra, pressure is building up among government, administration and health authorities to avoid the second wave of Covid-19 as the decreasing trend of number of patients has changed after Diwali and number of daily cases are again exceeding the number of recoveries.

Although preparations are on for reopening 9 to 12 classes of schools in rural areas of Maharashtra, major cities like Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Aurangabad and Nashik have become cautious and not opening the schools from tomorrow. AIR Correspondent reports that in the backdrop of the rising fear of the second wave in the State, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray is addressing the people of Maharashtra virtually.

After Mumbai, Pune and Aurangabad, schools in Nagpur and Nashik cities will also remain closed till next month or till the decision of the local administration as parent associations as well as some public representatives are opposing the decision to reopen the schools. Leader of opposition in the State assembly Devendra Fadnavis has appealed to the government to rethink about the decision and not implement it all over the State.

Another MLC Kapil Patil has written a letter to the Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray in this regard and urged him to withdraw the condition of mandatory 50 per cent attendance for the teachers in the schools in the State. He has pointed out to the increasing number of Covid positive teachers found during the mandatory health check up for reopening the schools.

On the other hand, there is a rise in active cases after registering continuous decline in the cases for the last few days and it has increased the worries of the government, administration and health authorities. Government is leaving no stone unturned in the backdrop of the fear and urging the people to remain vigilant and follow all the guidelines to avoid the second wave.
