Morbi bridge collapse: PM asks for close monitoring of situation & delivery of all possible help to affected persons

In Gujarat, the rescue and relief operations after the collapse of a hanging bridge over the River Machchhuin at Morbi yesterday evening have entered the last stage.

Gujarat Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi said, 132 people lost their lives in the tragic incident and two people are still missing. He added that the rescue operation carried out by various security agencies including NDRF, SDRF, Air Force, Army, and Navy since last night will end soon. FIR has been lodged by Morbi B Division Police under various sections of IPC against those responsible for the tragedy. The minister said the culprits will face strict action. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel held a meeting with the district administration this morning and took stock of the rescue and relief work.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asks for close monitoring of the situation and delivery of all possible help to the affected persons. He condoled the loss of lives in the bridge collapse tragedy at Morbi yesterday. Mr. Modi said the centre is offering all possible help to the state government. He assured that the government is standing shoulder to shoulder with the families of the victims.

The Prime Minister also remarked that Gujarat and the entire nation is swallowed by grief from the loss of lives after the tragedy in Morbi yesterday. In this hour of grief, all of us are with the families of the victims. He said that the Chief Minister and his team are whole-heartedly working for the relief work.  He said  I am in constant touch with the officials involved in the relief work. The NDRF team and personnel from armed forces have reached. The Prime Minister said I assure the people of Gujarat from the land of AmbaJi that no stone will be left unturned in the relief work.
