Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Anurag Thakur took part in the send off ceremony of the Indian squad for the Birmingham Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022 in New Delhi today. The event was organised by the Indian Olympic Association which is the governing body for Olympic sports in India. The official kits for the squad was also unveiled.
Tokyo 2020 Olympic medallists Bajrang Punia, P.R. Sreejesh, Manpreet Singh, Harmanpreet Singh and Lovlina Borgohain were some of the star players present at the ceremony from among the 215 member squad. Some other athletes present included Olympic medalist Sakshi Malik, sprint stars Dutee Chand and Hima Das, Asian Boxing Championships Gold Medalist Shiva Thapa and boxer Amit Panghal, among others.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Thakur said the Indian CWG squad is strongest ever and all the athletes will make India proud at a global stage yet again. He said Indian sports has reached a higher level globally with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
