Sensex tumbles 1,939 pts to end at 49,100; Nifty slides 568 pts to 14,529

Benchmark domestic stocks today tumbled 3.8 percent in sync with the plunge in the global equity markets.
Global indices declined logging biggest intraday percentage loss in last nine months. Investors booked profit across stocks, commodity and bond markets following a steep rise in U.S. treasury yields.
The BSE Sensex closed 1939 points, or 3.8 percent, down at 49,100, The NSE Nifty also fell 568 points, or 3.76 percent, to finish at 14,529.
The broader market at BSE also declined but outperformed the Sensex. The BSE Mid-Cap index ended 1.44 percent down while the BSE Small-Cap index slipped 0.74 percent.
In the Sensex pack, shares of all 30 companies fell. ONGC lost the most as it fell 6.6 percent.
Mahindra & Mahindra tumbled 6.4 percent while Bajaj Finserv, Kotak Bank and Axis Bank declined six percent each. Power Grid settled 5.7 percent down, HDFC fell 5.4 percent and Bajaj Finance slipped 5.3 percent.
In sectoral indices, all 19 sectors logged losses. Bankex was the top losses as it declined 4.9 percent followed by Finance 4.6 percent.
Telecom, Oil & Gas and Auto sector stocks ended more than three percent down. Shares of Tech, Metal, Capital Goods, Utilities and Energy sectors fell more than two and half percent.
The overall breadth of the BSE trade was negative as shares of 1020 companies gained while 1902 declined. Shares of 179 companies remained unchanged.
