Amid the continuing spate of record daily deaths due to COVID-19, the government of Bangladesh has decided to extend the ongoing lockdown for one more week. State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain said that the lockdown will remain in force from April 22 to 28 with the same restrictions imposed as in the previous week.

According to the latest figures released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 112 people died today taking the death toll to 10,497. It is the highest single day death toll in the country since the Corona pandemic hit Bangladesh in March last year. 4271 new coronavirus cases were reported in the country during the same period and the test positivity rate remained high at 17.68, though marking a decline from the high level of 23.36 percent on 16 April.
