As the country is celebrating Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav to mark 75 years of India’s independence, it is imperative to remember those who fought for this freedom. While some like Dadaji Pattewale and Laxmanrao Vasekar are no longer with us to enjoy this freedom, 92-year-old Baburao Bankar still fondly remembers the day when India attained freedom.

All three of them along with numerous others had led the freedom movement from Maharashtra’s Chandrapur district and had to go to jail for the same. Speaking to AIR, Mr. Bankar said, he would still love to work for the upliftment of the poor and downtrodden but can’t due to age related issues.
