Asian stock markets traded mixed, today, even as Wall Street ended with gains yesterday amid investors awaiting US August inflation data, due later in the day.

So, Japan's Nikkei-225 index rose 0.7 percent, to close at a more than 31-year high, today. South Korea's Kospi index also ended 0.7 percent higher.

But China's Shanghai Composite index ended 1.4 percent lower, dragged by real estate after the country’s most-indebted developer warned of a risk of a cross-default. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index slipped 1.2 percent and Singapore's Straits Times index had edged up 0.2 percent.

In Europe, London's FTSE-100 had fallen 0.3 percent; France's CAC-40 had dropped 0.5 percent but Germany's DAX had gained 0.2 percent, in intra-day trade.
