As the Narendra Modi Government is completing nine years in office this month, Akashvani News is bringing a series of special stories on the initiatives taken by the government. Today, we will take a look at how the introduction of the Goods and Services Tax has revolutionized the indirect tax system of the country.
The Goods and Services Tax commonly known as the GST has proved to be a path-breaking legislation for New India. After the implementation of the GST, India turned into one market with uniform tax on supplies of goods and services. In the last six years, the GST ensured compliance simplification with uniform processes across the country. Commissioner of CGST Bhiwandi Commissionerate Sumit Kumar explains how the introduction of GST has led to an increase in tax collection and in the number of taxpayers.
First proposed by the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led NDA government in 2000, the GST has eliminated human interface from the indirect taxation system, enhanced transparency, and fulfilled the dream of One Nation, One Tax.
