95% of villages connected to 4G; Full optical fiber connectivity by 2027: Union Minister Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar

Union Minister of State for Communications Dr Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar has said that India with its rich heritage of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam committed to embracing global standards. He was addressing the closing ceremony of the International Telecommunication Union Global Standards Symposium (ITU GSS) in New Delhi this evening. Mr Chandra Sekhar said the GSS has laid a solid foundation for the future setting an inspiring tone for the advancements ahead. He said, unfortunately third of of world’s population is still unconnected. The Minister said the Government of India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken several initiatives to connect people with technology through programmes like Digital India. He informed that as part of the Digital India Mission, six lakh villages were connected with 4G which is 95 per cent of the total villages in the country. Mr Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar said that two lakh villages are already connected with optical fibre and by 2027 all the remaining villages will be connected.
