9-day long Ganesh festivities end in Hyderabad

In Hyderabad, a mammoth Ganesh immersion procession is underway amidst massive security peacefully. The 9-day long Ganesh festivities came to an end on Thursday. Devotees are bidding farewell to Lord Ganesh and immerse the idols in about 100 lakes and ponds in and around Hyderabad. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has installed dozens of heavy cranes at over 30 lakes and dozens of special ponds created for immersion. The 63 feet high Ganesh idol has been taken in Shobha Yatra to Hussain Sagar.
 
Thousands of devotees are participating in the annual procession while chanting slogans -Ganapathi Bappa Moria- from Balapur to Hussain Sagar, about 22 kilometers. Hundreds of trucks carrying Ganesh idols in various hues and sizes are heading towards Hussain Sagar. The Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi, the organisers of the procession, set up special platforms at Charminar, Moazzam Jahi Market, and at Liberty junction to welcome the idols.

Director General of Police Anajani Kumar is monitoring immersion processions from the state command and control centre. Police were keeping a close watch on the procession from the command and control centre linked with CCTV cameras installed along the procession route. The mammoth procession has brought the entire city to a halt. Police have imposed traffic restrictions till Friday morning.
