Union Minister of Road Transport Nitin Gadkari informed that 8 thousand 819 kilometers of national highways have been constructed in the North East in the last nine years. In a reply in Lok Sabha today, Mr. Gadkari said that between 2004 to 2013 nearly two thousand 795 kilometers national highways were constructed in the North East region. The Union minister further said that various measures are being taken to promote green highways. He said that a total of 433 Amrit Sarovars have been constructed along the national highways for augmenting the ground water regime of the area including micro climate of the area.
