In Sri Lanka, a total of 690 nominations from recognised political parties and independent groups were accepted nationwide for the General Election. Sri Lanka’s Election Commission has said that 74 nomination papers were rejected due to various reasons.
Meanwhile, nominations of a total of 46 contestants have been approved to contest the Parliamentary Election from the Colombo District which includes Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya. Digamadulla electoral district received highest nominations at 64, while least number of nominations were received in Polonnaruwa and Monaragala districts at 15 each.
The Parliamentary Election in the island is scheduled for 14th of November in which 196 members will be elected from 22 electoral districts and 29 members will be nominated through the national list.
