The excitement reached its peak today in the athletics events of the 38th National Games, currently underway in Uttarakhand. Runners and athletes from across the country showcased their outstanding talent, striving to secure medals and strengthen their respective states’ positions in the rankings. The track and field events witnessed intense and thrilling competitions.
In today’s events, Maharashtra’s Tejas Ashok Shirse clinched the gold medal in the men’s 110-meter hurdles race with an exceptional performance. Tamil Nadu secured the silver, while Kerala claimed the bronze. In the women’s 100-meter hurdles, Andhra Pradesh’s Jyothi Yarraji won the gold medal, while West Bengal took silver and Tamil Nadu settled for bronze. The field events also saw fierce competition. In the men’s high jump, Tamil Nadu’s Adarsh Ram secured the gold medal, with Odisha winning silver and Karnataka taking bronze. In the women’s long jump, West Bengal’s Moumita Mondal emerged victorious with the gold, while Kerala bagged silver.
In the women’s javelin throw, Haryana’s Jyoti Rakesh dominated the event, winning the gold medal, while Karnataka athletes secured silver and bronze. In the men’s 400-meter race, Odisha’s Bapi Hansda took home the gold, with Haryana and Kerala winning silver and bronze, respectively. Meanwhile, in the women’s 400-meter race, Maharashtra’s Aishwarya Mishra clinched the gold, Tamil Nadu secured silver, and Gujarat bagged bronze.
The team events were equally competitive. In the women’s 4×100 meter relay, Karnataka’s team secured the gold medal, followed by Kerala with silver and Telangana with bronze. In the men’s 4×100 meter relay, Odisha’s team dominated, winning gold, while Tamil Nadu secured silver and Kerala took bronze. In netball, Haryana made a remarkable impact by winning gold in both the men’s and women’s categories. Meanwhile, on the second day of the modern pentathlon, Haryana and Maharashtra showcased stellar performances, each securing two gold medals. Hosts Uttarakhand also bagged a gold medal in the event.
Looking at the medal tally, Services is in first place with 42 gold medals, while Karnataka is in second place with 31 gold medals.
