Union Minister of State for Textiles, Pabitra Margherita has said, there has been a significant increase in women’s participation in the textile industry.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi yesterday, the Minister shared that 3.6 lakh women have benefited from the government’s Samarth Scheme (Scheme for Capacity Building in the Textile Sector). The initiative focuses on skill development to promote employment and upskilling in the textile industry.
Mr. Margherita highlighted that 88 per cent of the beneficiaries in the scheme are women. He also noted that the textile sector is the second-largest employer after agriculture, currently employing around 4.5 crore people and has set a target of reaching 10 crore by 2030.
He also emphasized on the recently launched PM Internship Scheme, with a financial outlay of 2 lakh crore rupees, aimed at providing one crore internships to youth. The Minister further highlighted the government’s commitment to empowering all sections of society and integrating them into the mainstream.
